Housecleaning with pets
Comments (25)I have hardwoods through the whole house and use the Hoover Floormate- it scrubs the floor with water and solution and slurps it back up. Between 2 kids, DH, and 3 furbabies I use it daily. I have carpeted stairs and of course anyone that has to have an accident will go on my stairs. I bought a Bissell carpet machine thingy, not sure what its called but I love it. Its about $90 at Target, and you can buy a pet formula to use in the machine. Once again, I LOVE IT! I keep a schedule of when everything is to be cleaned and stay on it. Also all 3 furkids get a bath once a week. I suggest checking out www.flylady.com Its a great way to get organized and get the house cleaned and keep it clean using baby steps....See MoreAllergic Freak Out - Bedroom Floor time
Comments (21)Well, we've decided to do wood, BUT we will have to wait a while. We have a hallway, dressing area, and a study that all butts to an existing oak floor. We'll probably pick a similar floor, but we will shop around and think about it for a bit. I'm not about to lay my own wood floor over 600 or 700 sq. ft., so we'll have to save for installation too. We want to be able to pull out all the stops for this floor. It might even have to wait until I go back to work. : ( I'd love to have a herringbone pattern. : ) In the meantime, we'll keep things very clean and in the summer, we'll rip out the rug and have it hauled away. Our interim floor (and this is really fun) will be epoxy. There is a no VOC formula that looks very similar to terrazzo when it cures. That should be fun to play with. It's nuts, I know, but at least it will seal up the plywood so I can keep it clean for the next year or so. I'll just plop down a few area rugs and have them hauled out for cleaning a couple times a year. Wanna help pick colors?? : D Moonshadow, I can't wait to get this yucky garbage out of here. I'm absolutely sure I'll feel like a million bucks living without all this grotesque dust catcher outta here....See MoreSpent some time with Charlee!! PICS
Comments (7)Years ago, my family camped on the Current River and drifted the river on rented inner tubes - What a Blast! The stuff I saw people floating down the river was unbelieveable. One group had a cooler with an inner tube wrapped around it and was drinking the afternoon away. We wore tennis shoes for fear there might be broken glass on the river bottom. My biggest mishap: I got a load of chiggers. I figured that I picked them up when I waded through tall grass going back to the tent....See MoreDo you declutter right before the housecleaners visit?
Comments (64)"Are there any readers whose husband or (male) SO handles the cleaning on a regular basis?" Well, he died 22 years ago, but my husband did most of the vacuuming and kitchen clean up, some of the cooking and shopping (with a detailed list), most of his own laundry and all of his own ironing. He drove me crazy when he'd "straighten up," meaning I'd watch him take a pile of anything that had accumulated on a counter or table and make a much neater pile of it instead of just putting it away. So our clutter wasn't too cluttery. :-) He also would clean the toilets, if I outlasted him (which I could easily do for vacuuming, I detest it so) - they weren't awful, but he'd do them before me. I'm a terribly messy cook - meaning lots of pans and dishes, so I miss his efficient and cheerful clean-up after me duty (he appreciated the good meals). He also would empty the dishwasher which I also hate. So, living solo, I try to just force myself to do the jobs I hate, but I still miss coming home to a freshly vacuumed floor. I did get a Roomba, which helps....See Moretinam61
