My soup swap is Saturday, so excited.

I'm hosting my first soup swap on Saturday. I've never been to one but heard about the concept last year on National soup day??? Anyway its more like an exchange instead of a swap. I only could find 4 people to attend. Each are making 5 quarts of soup. 4 to exchange and 1 to share that day. Besides soup I'm making a chocolate cheesecake.

I was frustrating that more people were not interested. Actually a few were interested but were afraid their soups weren't good enough. Most people said they have never made soup and they just use soup out of a can. One person attending thinks we just don't know the kind of people that would make soup if that makes sense. My friend thinks people who are into healthy food and gardening are types to make soup. Apparently I don't know enough healthy gardeners!

I have a few soup trivia questions to share and I'm giving everyone a soup ladle.

These are the soups, Black bean, potato, chicken noodle, wedding, stuffed pepper.

After the party I'll post the results with a few photos.

I love soup and while I don't think I'm a great cook I can make soup.

I've never heard of a soup swap. But I love soup.

Sounds wonderful....I'd make a large toasted garlic bread to serve as a side with the soup....

Everything is gorgeous and so special! I love supporting local artists, and I espeically love the carving board. I would definitely use it because it seems to practical, and it was meant to be functional art. The same with the napkins, although I would reserve those for specially occasions. I'm a bit confused about the scale of the items because you said the napkins were oversized. How large is the cream pitcher? For some reason, it looks a bit like a water pitcher to me. Here are some of the details and my specific questions and concerns. Have at least 6 people participate, what should be the limit if more want in? Everyone will bring a container of soup for everyone attending plus 1 which will be used for everyone to taste. How big should the containers be? Suggestions have been 1 qt or 1 1/2 qt? Family sizes range from 1 -5 people. Some people say bring the soup anyway you want (container wise) others insist the soup is in ziplock freezer bags pre-frozen flat. I like containers better. I will make sure there are a variety of soups and ask those attending to bring the recipe to share. I will provide everthing else needed including desserts, bread, etc. Now some of these events are real swaps where you would say I will trade you my chicken noodle for your potato soup. Others are just like a cookie exchange where you get 1 of each variety. I don't want any hurt feelings from no one wanting to trade for your soup and there being a clear "favorite". I would like everyone to get 1 of each variety BUT being that I have a family of 4 I actually would rather have 2 containers of 3 types of soup than 6 containers each different. It really doesn't matter that much to me either way I just love soup. Hope that all makes sense. If you were attending what would you like for sizes, container types, way to exchange?

Like Alisande, I only see one about once a year...just passing through. I put out a lot of bird seed. I put black oil sunflower seeds in the feeders in the yard and I get a free mix that is a lot of milo and some sunflower seeds donated to me by Walmart, and I put it out along the driveway for the doves. It is so dry here. Right now I have 5 bird baths in the lower part of my yard, which is only about 1/2 acre big, but ran the horse water troughs over yesterday, and couldn't believe all the doves down there bathing. I guess I'm fortunate. I see sparrows in town, but out here in the country, we don't have them. Bluebirds can be seen in this area...supposedly, but the only time I ever saw them, was a pair in the yard of the old man that I look after a couple of towns over, and he couldn't have cared less. That was a few years ago. Now he has a pair of hawks nesting in a tree right out his door, and I can't even get him to walk to the door to look out at them.

I had just taken my succulents out of the garage LOL. Have to put them back in tomorrow, and the garden looks either festive or like a hobo camp, depending on your point of view, with all the different colors of garage sale blankets over everything else! I have been potting up some of my famous lemon mint and some blue heartleaf skullcap, which is a wonderful butterfly plant. It seeds itself, it has beautiful blue flowers and silvery foliage, once established it cannot be killed, and it grows to about 3 feet high.

A soup swap sounds like a lot of fun. We eat a lot of soup this time of year (Roasted Tomato Garlic and grilled cheese tonight). Looking forward to your pictures. Don't be frustrated...word will spread. Comfort food rules, hehe.

We celebrated National Soup Month at my libraries. StoryTime had a soup theme and I made four gallons of chicken noodle soup that we served to our patrons on Soup Day. We also collected cans of soup for the food bank and our two local papers had front page pics of cute StoryTime kids donating cans of food. It was a hoot.

Lucky you! I wish I knew enough real cooks that would enjoy a soup swap. I envy you and your soup making friends.

I love this idea! I would so be there! Love my soup. Christy always tells people I could eat soup every day year round. She's right! Have fun and can't wait to hear how it went.

Wish I could come to your soup swap! It sounds like a lot of fun. All the soups sound good but the stuffed pepper soup is intriguing me most. I've never heard of that one. Can't wait to see the recipes and pictures from you party!

I haven't heard of a soup swap either but it sounds like fun. I have a soup supper every year in Oct. for some friends and family. We usually have about 5 soups for about 12 or 15, but not huge quantities. Everyone seems eager to help, but I wonder how many of them would be willing to make that amount.LOL Others bring garnishes, finger/2 bite desserts, etc.

I'm looking forward to your pictures, recipes and a report of how it all came together.
