How to cook brown rice?

Every time I try it has a weird texture. I don't quite know how to get separate yet tender grains. Do you?

Tonight I made Spanish/Puerto Rican Brown Rice and still had that problem. It's a gummy yet chewy texture. Is that just how it is? I know I've had brown rice in restaurants that have a nice texture.

How do you get that?
