Bummer. I suppose this means I'll need a 3rd converter box. I'm in the process of changing everything over. I've removed all the wires from TV, VCR, DVR. So far, the TV is doing its thing correctly from having the converter box. Nice clear pictures and a few more stations. I figured I should start out simply......with just the converter box and TV. Now I'm trying to get the VCR to work, but nothing is showing up. Since I unplugged everything, I might have to re-program the VCR being able to talk to the TV, but I have to go let the chickens out first. What caught me up for awhile was that I was used to having the TV and VCR set to channel 4, but for some reason, it needs to be channel 3 now. After I get the VCR working with everything else, then I'll move on to the DVR. I think I'm going to use a splitter so that I can get signals to my VCR and my DVR. Does that make any sense at all? You guys are so familiar with all this stuff, you must think I'm a real slow learner. haha But hey....ask me about chickens, watergardens, raising kids, vegetable gardening, or critical care medicine, and I could probably help some of you! One quick question.........Am I being redundant by using a coaxial connection here and there, AND RCA cables on the same machines?? Okay.........out to the chickens, but I'll be back. I need help. I bought a new 42 inch screen Magnavox HD TV set. We are a member of the Direct TV Satellite Cable Network. The dish is outside of the house with a coaxil cable entering the home to a black box that sits beside the TV. A coaxil cable leaves the black box to a Power Surge Protector Electrical strip. Another coaxil cable leaves this connection to the TV back input area. The TV channels, volume, etc are controlled by the handheld Dish Remote Control. The Magnovox TV remote is not used. I have a Symphonic DVD Player and the red, white, yellow wire set and its own remote control. I have an Emerson VCR with a coaxil connector wire and its own remote controller. I do not know where to connect the VCR coaxil wire to the TV. The TV set has overall, 3 sites for the colored wire connection ports. (1) an area on the left side near the back of the screen for the yellow,red,white connection, and 2 separate areas called line 1 and line 2 connections (but a double set of plugs of red, white and yellow colored ports in this assembly)which is very confusing. Which row do I use? Goal: I want to know how to connect the VCR and the DVD. They are to be used separately. Do I hook up these 2 separately at the varied colored port areas, and they run independently with their remotes? Do I connect to the black box? Do I run the DVD through the back out hook-up of colored ports to the colored inports at the VCR front area and connect to the TV via a coaxil somehow?....Is the black box involved or bypassed? Please keep the insructions simple. The 3 sets of appliance directions are too confusing. I am having trouble with each appliance and the individual directions are not helpful to me with the currently used Direct TV Dish system. Thank you in advance.

I have an interesting take on this subject as my husband and I did alot of research and just bought an sony wega lcd (widescreen and HD ready) We DO NOT have cable or satalite. Now most people think that we would be crazy to get a HD tv without the cable and just use air however the Air channels come in BETTER! we are even using the same stupid bunny ears for reception that we used on our old tv. Not only that we were so surprised that we can get 18 channels now, compared to the five we had before. WXXI has about 3 HD air channels and we get a local weather channel!!! My husband loves it. The HD air broadcasts are much better looking on the tv than the non-hd. Our tv doesn't stretch the images though however I understand that not all tv's have the same scaling so it is important to research this first. Our DVD's look awesome too and the sound it much better than our old tv. Although it was expensive I am really enjoying it. We saved up for a while and did alot of research first and I feel we made a really good choice. I was really impressed with the new plasma and lcd technology. We chose lcd because it has a much lower power consumption than plasma and is not prone to burn in like plasma (although this isn't so much a problem anymore) The sony has a usb port (awesome!!!!) so I can hook my camara up to it and view videos and pics. Also you can hook a computer up to it and use it as a computer screen. This is great for my husband who likes to work on it. Our previous tv was 26 inches and now we have a 40 inch widescreen. It is a big jump however and although i was worried about the channels coming in poorly they come in much better and look better! We really only use our tv for DVD's (hence us deciding on this specific tv). We stopped going to the movies long ago because they play commercials (which make us SO mad). We decided we would save our money and then buy a nice tv so we can enjoy our movies at home commerical free! I think the most important thing to do is think about what your tv will be used for most often and then do research to figure out what kind of tv will be good for you. If you are playing video games alot then you really need a tv that is different than if you are watching dvd's only. -renee

Well, I'm currently watching two shows - Castle and Game of Thrones. Castle's a light series, but Game of Thrones is very intriguing so far. It feels like a mix of ROME and LotR, with more political backstabbing than either one. The politicking between the characters and different houses is definitely a staying factor for me. The level of detail that went into the opening sequence is amazing. The actors' names have their characters' house sigils next to them. On the map, each house's stronghold cities have the house symbols on buildings. Also, the wooden bar carvings throughout the opening sequence tell Westeros' history. Once again, I spoiled some of the future events by while reading wiki articles in an attempt to keep the multitude of characters straight in my head. TBH, now I am more curious to see the events play out. I'm also looking forward to the upcoming novel ;)
