I think this could be classified as a "paint" post, but the "home disasters" definitely works too.

I saw this story and thought it was funny. To the victim it wasn't very funny, but now that he has survived.......in time it will also be a funny story even he can tell.

If you need painting done around your house, you may want to think twice before hiring this guy!

Frederick man charged in medieval battle ax attack

FREDERICK, Md.

A Frederick painting contractor has been charged with slashing an employee in the forearm with a medieval-style battle ax.

Andrew Scalera, 44, faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 24 into the incident early Monday morning. He didn't return calls to his home or business Wednesday.

The Frederick News-Post reported that the victim told police he was doing some paperwork at Scalera's house when Scalera accused him of stealing quarters from his bedroom.

The man said he denied the allegation but Scalera became enraged and choked him. He said Scalera then went back to his bedroom and returned with the ax.

He contends Scalera hit him with the weapon as he was trying to spray him with pepper spray.

Court records state the 2-inch gash chipped a bone in the victim's arm.

If this is the most damage this guy can inflict with a battle axe, I really pity the guy when he gets to prison!

The guy gets so angry because some quarters were missing, and he chooses to attack with a battle axe? Out of all the possible weapons, and he chooses a battle axe? Just the fact that the guy even owns a battle axe is funny. This is like the scene in "Cable Guy" where Jim Carey attacks Mathew Broderick - I can even hear the Star Trek music playing! Of course it's funny.

All the guy had to do was call the police and report a theft. The police may not want to bother arresting a guy over a few quarters, but still all he had to do was fire the guy. Over and done with, hire a new employee and get on with your life.

Instead, he chooses to go totally bonkers, and the employee is now in the clear. In the very least, he now faces assault and battery charges, but may actually be facing attempted murder charges. The employee can also sue him and take a whole lot more money from him than just a few quarters.

I would have never posted this had the victim been more seriously injured. This guy will heal quickly and his life will go back to normal in no time. And yes, even he will be telling this story to all his friends and getting lots of laughs - all because of how absurd it all was.

This is how I do it: Dry the pit for 24 hrs, then crack the seed and soak the kernel for about an hour. Then, in a sandwich bag add indoor plant potting soil and add a little bit of water---the soil should be moist but not wet. After that, place the seeds inside, and then store the bags in the fridge---you could also wrap the bags with newspaper to prevent the potting soil from spilling. Every three to four days open the bag a minute or two so the seeds would get some oxygen. If you follow this process, the seeds will germinate in less than 3 monthsÃ¯Â¿Â½"they will actually root inside the bag, when this happens it means that they are ready to be planted in a pot. The seedlings should get morning sun and afternoon shade. Since the seedlings wonÃ¢ÂÂt have enough time to develop they will not survive the winter, therefore, the best thing to do is to take them inside your house for the rest of winter. This is very fun project to do with the family however, the trees wonÃ¢ÂÂt produce fruits identical to the parentÃ¯Â¿Â½"true from seed; a couple years ago I planted an elberta peach seed, the seed germinated, grew into a tree then it produced fruit, but the fruit was not very good, it had a big pit with little flesh. Thus, the best thing to do is just buy a peach tree from your local Home depot. All of them are grafted (clones from the same mother tree) this guarantees that the fruit will come true to the fruit. IÃ¢ÂÂm currently doing this process that I explained to you above, but this is for my breeding program. I have heirloom stone fruit seeds in the fridge; and some apricots seeds that I placed in the freezer in June have already germinated. I have some peach seeds that I hand pollinated (when they used to be flowers) with plum and apricot pollen; and plum seeds that were pollinated with peach and apricot pollen; and almond seeds (when they used to be flowers) with peach pollen.

I know just how you feel! Before we put in irrigation, my husband swore that his Native American name would be DANCES WITH HOSES. I put in the Drip Works dribbler systems in all my rose beds, so I just had to hook a hose to it and leave it on until the roses got a good deep soak. I found they were much more efficient than the soakers, and last a lot longer. But we did have to move hoses from bed to bed to do that. A good 3-4" of mulch helps hold in the moisture. When we finally put in irrigation (truly the 8th wonder of the world) they just hooked the irrigation system into the dribbler system, so I could keep watering the roses from the bottom instead of overhead. The other pre-irrigation helper was our 'tractor' sprinkler - they really are neat - you just lay out your hose around the garden where you wish to water, hook the traveling unit to the end of the hose and let it water the garden, following the track of the hose. Or...you could order the impress aluminum labels from the manufacturer for a very good price at http://www.amekron.com I find that they hold up way better than the flimsy ones from other suppliers that have only a single hole for the stainless steel wire. Since I've been using the Amekron labels I haven't lost one. The old ones have littered my landscape as they inevitably fall off after a few years because the wire works its way through the thin aluminum. Charley

Jill I am facing same problem and have one tray of hosta seedlings which was wintersown in sping and just started some new ones now. My hosta seedlings all have 4-6 leaves but still pretty small. It has been my observation with other perennials that at this size root system is not well developed yet and most seedlings do not survive winter well in my zone. Most likely my own seedlings will go into cold frame to prolong their growth season and give them better chance to develop. Cold frame does not have to be complicated- wooden frame with clear lead takes care of it. Any decent sized box with old window or glass door over it is usually works well as cold frame. New seeds that started germinate for me now I will overwinter indoor. It is not easy but I have done it before as some perennial seeds will germinate in the fall and they are rare enough to be worth growing indoor through the winter.

What is absurd is that you think it is funny to be hit with a battle axe, that it was NOT a serious injury and that you can predict that victim will heal quickly and laugh at it...

No, what is absurd is someone knowing exactly what I am talking about, pretending that they have never laughed at anything like this, and then acting holier than thou and trying to make me look bad. Sorry, but the guilt trip will not work.

I never said it was funny someone got hurt. I did not think I had to go into great detail to explain that.

My brother, sister, my friends and I used to do all kinds of stupid stuff that resulted in one of us getting hurt. Funny at the time? No. Funny maybe a couple days (or less) later? Definitely! And guess what - we survived many injuries greater than a 2 inch gash.

Why do you think the Associated Press circulated that story nationwide? Because it was horrendously shocking? Partly, but also because it was humorous. Don't expect me to believe you didn't find some humor there - I'm not buying it.

Learn not to take life so seriously.
