Philips 27PT54 3S37A

Chasis: L01.1u Ac-7638

The problem started a few weeks ago. I would turn the tv on, the screen would flicker for a few secs and then image would take a while to fill the screen. Then a few days later I turned the t.v on got no picutre just heard a few clicking noises then the green power led would just turn off. I turned the tv on then off a few tims then eventually the piture would come on. Now nothing works. No sounds no picure. The only thing that come on is the green power led...tv is not even 2 years old...HELP!!!

WOW...i was just about to write the same exact post. that is unfrigginbelievable. I also have a Philips TV with the same exact model and chasis #, also about 2 years old, with the same exact problem, I mean the same exact problem, I couldn't have put it better myself!!! PEE WEE help us Please!!!!!

I have same set and same set of problems. Our set would come on after several tries. Lately it has been taking more tries than usual.

About a month ago, after we couldn't get the set to come on for a long time, my wife decided just to leave the thing on. Well, I got up this morning, still have asleep, and thinking I had to turn it on, instead inadvertantly turned the darn thing off. My bad, and boy is she sad.

Any help on this problem yet?

I am also having the same problem, how much should a repair like that run? Would it be easier to purchase the circuit and then take it into a tv service place? I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks, CPD516

You probably don't won't to hear this. (not meant to offend). I went and read your question. I am not a TV repair person. But your question was akin to asking: "My car won't start. I think it needs a new battery. It never gave me trouble before. What is wrong with it." Problems like these are nearly impossible to diagnose over the internet. And with virtually no info that makes it even harder. What have you tried. What makes you think it might be a switch. If you can do the work yourselve then you must be able to do some basic diagnostics. Otherwise you don't belong inside a TV. Lots of highly charged capacitors in there to provide quite a shock. As for PeeWee, he is a knowledgable person about this stuff. But he is not the only person on this site. When you address your question to a particular person then other people mite not reply even if they can provide info about the problem. Sometimes getting good answers means asking the right questions. Little or no info at all virtually guarentees no answers. I'm sorry I can't be of any help for your problem. I understand a considerable amount of electrical theory down to the atomic level (math and physics major), but I couldn't begin to fix a TV. And I'm certainly not qualified to troubleshoot over the internet. I do hope you find the answers you are seeking. Good luck. Pooh Bear

I'm not sure what a private forum is. Anyone can join and ask questions and supply answers. We just get a lot of people with broken Philips and Magnavox TVs on here looking for help. Way, way, more than any other brands. I was curious if someone from another forum sent you this way.

There are MANY things that will cause your symptom, but without feedback information it's trial and error.

Here is one thing that may correct your problem. Change 2455, this is a small capacitor(47ufd @ 35v). The cap is located in front of the high voltage transformer, slightly to the left, by 5461 the small driver transformer.

Of course you will have to gain access to the bottom, remove solder from c2455 leads, install a new capacitor. Be sure and observe polarity (+) to (+) and (-) to (-), or it will blow up the capacitor.

You can obtain this size capacitor at your local Radio Shack.
