Weight Watchers at home

I am new to this site and would like to participate actively once I get on some sort of diet :)

Has anyone tried Weight Watchers at home? I have just now gotten into exercise mode and am pleased that I am able to stick to my exercise schedule, so I was wondering if it might be ok if I did the WW kit at home instead of going to the meetings. Any ideas???

Thanks.

p.s. I wanted to do a search on this topic before I posted but this forum doesn't have a search!!!

Hi - FYI - There are a lot of Weight Watchers items on Ebay at pretty good prices--various kits made up of different combinations of items, electronic point calculators, etc. (You have to be careful and make sure to get a kit that includes all you need!) When I was thinking about this before, it seemed like Ebay would be a much cheaper way to go than paying direct at WW's website.

Also, there was a thread here about figuring WW points on your own. I'll put the link below. I know there are WW people on the board, but it's been pretty quiet the past few days--I figured you might want some info quickly!

BTW, there *is* a search box on this forum, but you have to scroll down pretty far. It's just before "Post a follow-up".

Here is a link that might be useful: Weight Watchers points

Thanks Erica. The link you posted is GREAT. I did look at Ebay and also at WW's own website. I am a bit concerned that the kits sold on Ebay are incomplete in some way.

For some reason, I don't have a search box at the bottom of the page. Hmmm...

Many thanks for the site though. Do you think that might replace the home kit? It seems to have a calculator and what not...

I was 225 when I went to WW last May. I lost 35lbs and stopped going in October. I gained five lbs back and decided to head back to WW (since trying to do it on my own did not work for me. I had to have the motivation of paying someone to weigh me every week). I am in my first week back and go to be weighed tomorrow. WW worked for me and is really a great program. I am now trying to loose the 5 lbs I gained back and an additional 25-30. We bought a house with a swim pool and I need to look better in a suit!

Welcome Christian! I have baby weight to lose as well. (I'll call it "baby weight, only because I didn't have it before I had babies 4 and 8 years ago!) I would like to lose 20 pounds by mid June and then another 15 by September 1st. (I'm a teacher, my life revolves around the school year.) I've had success with WW in the past (right after baby #1), but life continued and so the pounds came back on eventually. Right now I am just counting calories. I'm only on week 2. Sounds like you have a great plan in place between WW and the gym, you should see success quickly! Good luck to you! Everyone here posts weekly on the Weekly Support thread.

I was a member online up till about 3 months ago and I loved it. But when I got to my goal weight and then onto "lifetime" member, I didn't feel I needed to keep paying to be an online member. I do, however, go in monthly to weigh in, since it's required to maintain lifetime membership. With all that said, I loved having access to the online tools. Having been a member, you know how they encourage tracking everything you eat? I never could get into writing down everything I ate, but keeping track of it online was easier for me, and the neat thing is that as soon as you record a food online, the points, etc. are automatically figured for you. Another thing I like is that after your weekly weigh-in you can come home and record your weight online and it'll show you a graph of your losses, how much you have left to get to goal and all kinds of other good info. You could always cancel it if you really don't like it too. Good luck!

I wish just once I could experience that dieter's "high". Seriously. I just recently came off a 3.5 year quest for weight loss and extreme fitness. During this time, I trained for and completed a 5-day bicycle trip averaging 100 miles per day, a half-marathon (I don't like running so not doing a marathon), and a summit attempt on Mt. Rainier. OK, didn't summit, long story, but made it a good way up. All of these activities required a LOT of exercise including both strength (heavy free weights), aerobic fitness, a strong core, etc. A typical week included a minimum of 15 hours of exercising to a maximum of about 30 hours, depending on how long my hikes/bikes were. I also had 70# to lose. Less weight is certainly easier to carry both on a bike and up steep mountains. Especially when you're also hauling gear. I did Weight Watchers and, after 4 months of diligence, including weighing everything and inputting it into MyFitnessPal so I was tracking calories, nutrients and points, and lost a total of 4#. I then tried a series of other plans averaging about 3 months on each plan to give it a fair go prior to switching it up. These plans including the Fuhrman Eat to Live, The Leptin, 5:2, Durkan, just plain eating low-fat vegetarian/sometimes vegan meals, green smoothie fasts, low carb. You name it, I think I tried it. I felt great and could have probably done an Iron Woman competition at the fitness level I had attained. Oh, I would have been in last place but I think I could have completed one. And my attention to my diet's nutritional components also made me feel great. At the end of these 3.5 years of extreme effort and meticulousness, I lost a grand total of 15#. Before you say that I built a lot of muscle which weighs more so I must have lost a lot of inches. Well, I went down a pant size. So, no, not a big inch loss. I took a break and am having a hard time getting back on track. I miss being as fit as I was and I feel myself getting weaker and losing endurance and that bugs me a lot but that much exercise just isn't sustainable for me right now. I have too many other obligations that I was neglecting in order to work out that much. And since I worked that hard and didn't achieve my weight loss goal, I just don't know what I can do to lose the weight I still need to lose. I really don't. And it's difficult to muster the commitment to try again when nothing worked before. And, yes, I have had medical tests run. While my thyroid is on the slow side of normal, it's still in normal ranges. Consequently, everybody seems to think I'm lying about what I'm eating. Heck, I went to weighing food with a digital scale because it's more accurate than measuring spoons/cups. I'm not fudging my intake. And I don't even understand how some people can eat so much. When I eat in restaurants, a fairly rare event, I typically take half of it home for another meal later because I'm stuffed just eating the first half. Even when I was gaining, it was thus. Frustrating. Those of you who have had success, great. But don't presume that what you did works for everybody.

superbee, I was just planning to answer your post at the KT and tell you about the Diet Forum. The site that Erica posted is my website. I've been doing WW for several months and have never joined or gone to a meeting. You can get all the information that you need either here, by asking someone, or from the many websites out there. From what I hear, the motivation at the WW meeting is great, but you can also get that here.

I found that counting points was one of the easiest things I've done. I lost most of the weight that I wanted to lose, but then we had Spring Break and I got off schedule. I haven't been able to make myself get back on the program since then. I've gained a few pounds back and they all seem to be in my stomach, and I hate that!!! I feel sluggish and I know it's because I'm eating the wrong foods. I keep coming here in hopes that I'll get back on the wagon again. So I'm looking for the motivation too!
I had got down to 132 lbs. and wanted to be in the 120's. Now I'm 137½, at least I was last week. I still weigh every Wednesday morning. I'll weigh tomorrow and hope that I haven't gained any more.

I forgot to mention that there is a chart that tells you how many points you should have a day. I think it's posted somewhere here at the forum. I know that if you are 150 or less that you are supposed to eat 20 points per day, plus you get 35 flex points a week to use (or not to use) whenever you need them. I'll see if I can find the weight chart for you and post the numbers here.

Okay, I found the thread. The weight chart is several posts down, but you may want to read all the posts. WW Thread

Yes I did check the charts. I need to eat 22 points a day. Plus I need to calculate what I am allowed when I exercise (which is nearly everyday) The threat link you posted was also helpful. I read all the posts on it. Thanks. It would be great to post here to give and receive motivation and inspiration! I went through your entire website yesterday and got a list of the foods I usually eat and the points for them. The site is SUCH A HELP. Thanks once again.

Good luck, Superbee. WW has worked for me since February, and I'm looking forward to losing another 60 pounds on it!

I weighed this morning and was 135. I was surprised! I am still eating the right food during the day. It's just when I come home from work that I've been cheating.
I'm hoping to become stronger by hanging around with all of you!
I also haven't exercised since Spring Break, but my co-worker and I plan to start walking next Monday.

Good luck to everyone!
