OK, I opened the unit and can see and smell a burn mark on the circuit board near C423 and resistors R423 and R424 (which do not look damaged at all). The burn area on the circuit board extends in the general area of these three components. The components themselves do not look damaged at all, just burn marks around the circuit board in that general area. I measured the resistance of the 2 resistors and they are both measuring the correct resistance (supposed to be 100 Ohms, they are measuring 96 Ohms and 90 Ohms) I am not sure how to check a capacitor.

PeeWee, I have searched for for an hour looking at these never ending posts hoping to find my answer without asking you - but alas, I didn't find it, so..... My son's TV - see above for Mdl# is stuck on the "captions on" position all the time. No Menu selection to turn it off, have unplugged it several times. Daughter has same TV, bought at the same time - doesn't have this problem. Can you please tell me how to turn this off?? Philips was absolutely NO help - but you seem to be the expert on the web. I moved my TV from another house and now I cant view anything rated R. I went through the menu and tried to change it but I dont know the code. I bought the TV new and have never set a code in it. Anyway to get this parental lock off?

I have a 32" Smart Series TV(Model# TS3258C101 - 32D700 7570). The other day I was watching tv I got up and went to the other room and came back. The TV was off and the room smelled like burnt plastic or rubber. The tv would not come back on so I unplugged it and took the back off to see if I could see anything burnt. The only thing is (on the back right hand side of the circut board) what I think is a capacitor. Its small, round, and light blue. When I plug the tv in and turn it on, all I get is a faint tick. Every 5th or 6th tick that capacitor flashes and burns a little more of the blue wrapping off. I can't tell what the specifications on the thing are because most of writing is burned off. Other than that, I see nothing at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a great tv and I really don't want to see it go in the trash. I REALLY don't want to buy another tv.
