I can't recall where I saw a similar problem but it concerned a capacitor in the power supply. In my experience I have also seen where a fusible resistor just needed replacing. I don't know how old your unit is but many of the newer Phillips/Magnovox electronics are made by Funai which is a Communist China product.

I need help please I have this TV that when nothing is hooked up to it, it does this thing where it shuts off. all by it's lonesome. then i hook up a DVD Player, TIVO, something and it will shut off but turn right back on. It doesnt do this all the time... just sometimes. and there is no way to determin when it will. Argh... pleasehelp me. point me in the right direction. thank you.

Hello, Several months ago the problems began. First when the tv was turned on, the whole right side of the screen about an inch thick from top to bottom would not show the picture but within second would fill in with the rest of the picture. Every day it seemed to grow a bit in size and then the tv started turning itself off after being turned on. For awhile, you'd have to keep turning it on several times in a row as the picture issue from the right margin seemed to be the cause. Now it takes at least ten times of turning it on after it turns itself off to get the picture working. The screen is not just the margin issue now but also horizontal lines across the whole screen--the pciture is just all unclear though you can sort of see what it is. Then the tv shuts off until after ten or so times(of turning it back on) it finally clears up. On occasion, it also just shuts off. It is worsening and taking longer to clear up to watch tv. The color appears fine as does the sound and everything else. Any ideas? Can I fix it myself? Can anyone recommend how? Thanks in advance for your insights.
