My guests always rave about meatballs stirred into melted hot pepper jelly and served hot. I make extra jars of the jelly each summer just for this appetizer.

I have done the apple jelly with cocktail sauce, and everyone always likes.
BUT, I made this for a Christmas party and it was absolutely delicious.

Cranberry meatballs
2 pounds ground chuck
2 large eggs
1/3 cup dry breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1 (16-ounce) can cranberry sauce OR you can use the whole cranberry suce.
1 (12-ounce) jar chili sauce
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
2 tsp lemon juice
Combine first 8 ingredients in a large bowl. Shape mixture into about 54 (1-inch) balls.***I made 75 with smaller balls

Cook meatballs, in batches, in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned (about 5 minutes); remove meatballs from pan, and drain well on paper towels.

Stir together cranberry and chili sauces, sugar and lemon juice. in a large Dutch oven over medium heat, and cook, whisking occasionally, 5 minutes or until smooth. Add meatballs; reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, 15 to 20 minutes or until centers are no longer pink. **Because my meatballs were smaller, cooked in 10 minutes.

***The thyme, etc added an extra delightful taste to the meatballs.

I made the meatballs Glenda posted for Xmas and they were delicious.

I do have some home made jalapeno/cranberry jelly that I will try next time. Didn't even think of it until now.

Maggie, The Corningware electric skillets were made in the 60's and 70's. Not sure if they were earlier or not. It has an adjustable thermostat on the side and you can use it with any of the real pyroceram Corningware casseroles and skillets. I have the lid just took it off for the picture.

Neat skillet set, PK! I love Corningware all over again! I have some casseroles that are from the early 1970s, some Grab-its for soup, and now I have a cute squaty 6 cup tea kettle for boiling water. It heats up so fast I am amazed!

Do try the chili sauce and grape jelly meatballs, they are really good. I've made the cranberry version too and like that as well. I like to put a TB or two of dried onion soup in with the chili sauce and grape jelly version. Not a whole package of the dried soup, just a little bit.

PK I moved all my old Corningware to the cottage when we bought it 15 years ago, bought new stuff for the house in the city.

I love the Corningware at the cottage so much more than the new stuff , which was not cheap', at home.....now I'm looking in "used" stores for old Corningware for the house! LOL

PK, I have a similar skillet with the electric base. Its up at our cottage and so I'm not sure of the size, but I think its about an 11 or 12 inch square skillet, lower sides than your dish looks like to me. I use it a lot! I love having old dishes and Corning Ware.

I hope you are still taking good care of that red blender that I covet :)

Great skillet PK. I never knew Corning made one like that.
I've tried the grape jelly and chili sauce mixture and it was just okay.

I will never let go of my Corning Ware because it goes directly from refrigerator to stove. Nothing else does that.

I came across one of these Wednesday at a thrift store. Darn, I got side tracked and didn't go back to get it.

That sounds good--subbing hot pepper jelly on the meatballs. I have been collecting pepper jellies just to find the right one (none are as good as homemade Habanero Gold) so that would be a good way to use up the opened jars.

Pk, you seem like you might be in the know about old Corning.

I've got an open roaster of my mother's that says that it is safe for range and microwave on the bottom. It doesn't quite feel like it is the "regular" corning ceramic. Is it safe for use in the oven even though it only says "range"?

My mother had an electric frying pan that looked just like that but in that Avocado green shade.

I have been through 3 blenders in the last two years...sigh...they all leak!

...and about that pepper jelly! I have been hearing about that for years on here. I have to investigate to see if I can find it. Is it a regional thing?
