Rut Roh!!! English Gardends half off sale 06/22 6-9 AM
Comments (1)Denniinmi~ I was prompted to sign up for this forum today after yet another trip to English Gardens. LOL :)I plan on grabbing up some things in R.O. Wednesday, bright and early! It still kills me that I couldn't afford a couple of rare cedar shrubs I saw this spring. I love everything there, but you need to save up for them, don't you? Interesting thing I overheard while waiting for a manager at the service desk today: They are giving refunds for Impatiens because apparently they sold some with a fungus. The woman complaining about hers, was told to rip out a few of the the dead ones, bring them in and they will refund the purchase price. They also told her that she shouldn't plant impatiens in the same place next year. BTW, I saw in another post you live out by the Oakland Co. airport. I grew up in that area and am in R.O. now!...See Morerut roh! 'tater problem
Comments (17)Dody, Blackleg does not survive easily in soil without potatoes to survive on. So, if you pulled out all the potatoes and don't leave any tuber or plant parts behind, the soil should be good to re-use right away. However, I wouldn't use it for anything related to potatoes (like tomatoes, peppers or eggplants) for a couple of years. When commercial growers have blackleg in the field, they just leave it alone because it can hit one plant and skip the next and so on. I guess they deal with it after the harvest is done, although I'm not sure what they'd do. I would assume that any seed potatoes sold somewhere like Lowe's would be certified....I think all seed potatoes sold as seed potatoes are certified no matter what. Some people (and I've done this and never had a problem) plant regular organic potatoes from the grocery store that aren't treated with any chemicals and they grow just fine most of the time. I just think you had the misfortune to purchase some infected potatoes, and then the weather didn't help because it got so hot so early, which was great for the bacteria though not for the potatoes. It is too late to replant potatoes for a summer harvest and expect a good harvest as they grow best at temperatures between 45-55 at night and 60-75 during the day, and need to set and size their tubers before soil temperature reaches 85 degrees. You can plant potatoes in late summer for a fall harvest, and if you choose to do that, it is better to plant early-season types so they can set and mature tubers before frost arrives. I'm sorry this happened to your potato crop this year. I hope your husband decides to stay with you anyway. : ) Okiepokie, When lettuce rots at the ground like that it often is from a fungal disease called botrytis. One sign of botrytis is a little bit of fuzzy gray mold right where the rot occurred. It is soilborne, but there are fungicides you can use to treat it so lettuce can be grown there again in the future. It probably would be best to grow your lettuce in a 3-year crop rotation to keep the fungi from getting the next batch. Dawn...See MoreIm Ian a Cooking Rut...Help
Comments (11)Lots of good ideas on the link Jessy posted. I have another to add. This is the best scampi recipe I have ever had, and I have tried many! Ultimate Shrimp Scampi From Allrecipes submitted by: Slipmaloney 1 (16 ounce) package angel hair pasta 1/2 cup butter 4 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 cup minced onion 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley 1 tablespoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1 dash Worcestershire sauce 1/4 cup lemon juice 1 teaspoon dry white wine 1 pound peeled and deveined medium shrimp 1/2 cup Asiago cheese, diced 1 large avocado - peeled, pitted and diced Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the angel hair pasta, and cook until al dente, 2 to 3 minutes; drain. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in the garlic, onion, parsley, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and white wine. Once the mixture begins to bubble, increase the heat to medium-high, and stir in the shrimp. Cook and stir until the shrimp turn pink, and are no longer transparent in the center, about 5 minutes. Serve the scampi over a bed of angel hair pasta, and sprinkle with Asiago cheese and avocado to serve. Linda...See MoreOne month ago today I hit the rut in the road.
Comments (11)Lilliepad came the closest. It was $2883.47. And my deductible was $250. Beeohio, friends have been known to suggest that I have rocks in my head, so you may be right about that. It is too bad that the roads have been neglected for so long. Same problem with most things now . . . no money for repairs. I am sorry to have damaged such a nice car, but STUFF happens. Sorry way to cure a clicking ear, too. Thanks for the kind words. Sue...See Moremarlene_2007
