Can cottage cheese sub for ricotta?

Well, my vegetarian daughter will be visiting this week, and I'm already planning to make Portobello Mushroom Lasagna, but as I was going through my files, I found Joey's Killer Spinach Lasagna, which is also vegetarian. I couldn't decide which one to make, so now I'm going to attempt BOTH of them, LOL! The leftovers can go in the freezer.

Since I'm lactose-intolerant, I'm planning to substitute soy and lactose-free products for most of the dairy items. But the Spinach Lasagna calls for ricotta cheese. I'm wondering whether I could sub lactose-free cottage cheese (1% milkfat) for all or part of the ricotta. Should I drain it first? (Or alternatively, should I drain the diced tomatoes instead?)
