Rain water for chicken --- we have asphalt shingle...
Comments (3)Aloha Bonzgirl, It probably depends on the age of the asphalt roof. If you have just installed it, then let it get washed off by a couple heavy rains first. After that, it shouldn't be any problem IMO. Actually, the grit that comes down off the asphalt shingles may help the chickens digest grain? You could get some sort of a water filter if it worries you, although that seems like an un-necessary step, but I'm not an expert on this stuff. Almost all of the roofs around here are tin so we don't have a lot of experience with asphalt roofing. A hui hou, Cathy...See MoreRain....rain....rain.......
Comments (3)We've had a lot of rain in Gadsden, but it's been spread out enough that one downpour has time to drain off before the next one hits. We always get a river through our back yard when there's a long heavy rain, but that hasn't happened this time. Our house, thank goodness, is higher, but the sump pump in the crawl space is running a LOT. This feast-or-famine rainfall reminds me of a recent speaker at our Master Gardeners who said that averages don't mean much when you talk about rainfall. "You can have one foot in a bucket of ice water and one in boiling water and, on average, you're fine." Wish we could impound some of this Fall's rain to use next summer....See MoreOrder when installing Roof, Siding & Windows
Comments (3)The better way to do it I think is to do the roof, then do the siding/windows together. Mainly the ladders to get on the roof, debris etc could damage the new siding and windows, while the new siding and windows shouldn't damage the roof. a good roofer should be able to do a roof without collateral damage, however, if you're doing all of it, I'd do the roof first, but I'm no expert....See Morewindows in rain and water, slush
Comments (11)No, Marvin does not recommend the windows be installed until the house is weather tight. The only thing that may help is if the interior were either factory prefinished or finished prior to or at the immediate time of install and even then it is not recommended as the interior of a window should not really be exposed to the elements regardless....See Moremillworkman
