I have a Swiffer Wet Jet, and like it, but if I were purchasing a new mop I would probably get Rubbermaid's Reveal Mop, since you can use whatever cleaning solution you want and it uses reusable microfiber pads for cleaning instead of disposable pads.

I'm not a swiffer fan. Mainly because I don't like the throw away cloths. I use a similar dust mop that has a larger "head" and a washable terry cloth cover.

I wouldn't use swiffer cleaner on my wood floors, but that's just me.

Heh, I just now sat down from mopping a huge area of wood floors. Tiring!

However, I don't use Swiffer wet mop on my wood, only Bona. I love it! I ordered their mop, pads, solution and dust mop/pads online.

I do use the Swiffer wet mop (the pads come wet and I put one on at a time), on my tile floors. It worked great at the entryway, and in the kitchen.

Bona has a very long and good reputation for wood.

You would not believe all the muddy cat and dog prints on my floor from the snow last week! And we're getting another whopper of a storm tomorrow night and Wednesday. Yikes! More mopping!

I have avoided swiffer because of the disposable pads but our local Wal-Mart now carries the Bona mop which I am eyeing. Bed Bath and Beyond carries it too but I have to avoid that place.

Bona for wood with a couple of extra of their washable dust pads and a couple of the mopping ones.

But I use swifter for the non wood floors and frankly my life would not be complete without it. And it would be dirty.

I was also going to suggest the Bona system. I got mine at Costco last year & really like it. I'm just not a fan of disposable, one use cleaning products. I use an old fashioned wringer mop & vinegar/water solution on my non-wood floors. The one I use is removable & I can throw the head into the washer.

I also have a removable micro-fiber cloth dust mop I *try* to use in between mopping the hardwoods.

I have a Swiffer that uses the disposable pads, but I made my own reusable ones out of microfiber. I didn't like the expense or the smell of the disposable wet pads, so I make my own cleaning solution, too. It's cheap, the pads are washable, they can be used dry for dusting, my solution smells better and is less toxic than the Swiffer brand.

Another vote for Bona. It has a larger pad face and I like that you can reuse the covers. I found some other microfiber covers that fit the Bona cleaning face, too. Do you get the Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons in the mail? Use one for the Bona products!

I always felt that the Swiffer handle for the dry or wet cloths was thin and skimpy. I've not tried the Wet Jet.

I also was very intrigued by the Rubbermaid version, but I've not come across them in my WalMart or Target yet. Would like to see it to potentially use it on my kitchen's vinyl flooring. Traditional string, sponge and floppy strip mops don't thrill me.

I can't imagine life without a steam mop. The bissel I have used for the past several years only uses water. No damage whatsoever to our hardwoods...unless I dropped the thing.

This afternoon I went to another store and saw the Bona. I like it that it says the cleaning solution is nontoxic and "green." But the store didn't have the pads to go on the mop, so I held off.

That Rubbermaid got some mixed reviews, but it was pretty impressive that the company actually responded to concerns of the commentators right on the site. I like it that you can use your own cleaning solution.

Bumblebeez, I'm scared to use steam on our wood floors. I know you say it hasn't damaged yours, but I'm chicken.

Pammy, you're right, the mop heads that comes with Bona are huge which makes it go a lot faster.

Igloo, I couldn't live without my swiffer either on my tiled floors. Sometimes if I really have energy I get on my hands and knees in tough areas and use their wet cloths to wash instead of the mop.

I can't use any water on my hardwood, first because the store said not to, and secondly, we have hard water and over time it would just ruin it.

Here's a tip. I keep the Bona dust mop hidden in the foyer so I can do a quick dust mopping of all the white hair my dog sheds all year round. Dust mopping also helps the shine on the floor...supposedly.

I use Bona - but not their mop. I like my big dustmop (previously described)which came from Lowes or Home Depot. Our Lowes also sells Bona products.

On my tiled floors, I do use a steam mop but every few weeks, do a good thorough mopping (I don't feel my steam mop gets into corners, etc. good).

For every day pick-up on all hard floors, I have a small upright (stick) vacuum that works well. To me it's just as easy as swiffer/dust mopping.

Just finished with the floor. I went to HD with the intention of buying the Bona mop but they didn't have it. So I got the Rubbermaid mop, and the Bona hardwood cleaner to use with it.

Very nice! The mop worked well. No problems with the sprayer or the mop head coming off as some people reported in the reviews. The whole thing worked very well.

Big difference in the floors, but I have to say, my wood floors have seen a lot of life.

Now I'm thinking of getting the Bona hardwood polish, low sheen. Anyone tried it?

I have 2 Swiffer wet jets in the basement; no one wants them; including me. I just don't see how that crummy little pad will pick up the sandy dirt we have. I'd be afraid of it scratching my floors.

I have the Swiffer Wet Jet, and vacuum before I use it. The pad does pick up a ton of dirt.

I got a film from the Swiffer Wet jet and only after several uses of my steam mop is it finally gone.

I like the swiffer dust cloths though and use them in areas hard to reach with other things as it is so slim it fits under my sofa.

I tossed my Swiffer Wet Jet. My tile floors are so crummy and mucky that I went through way too many mop heads and I never felt that the floor was clean enough.

Accidently used a Swiffer on the wood floor of a rental that I was painting. :( Nothing more needs said.

Would seriously consider a steam mop after reading this though.

I love the new Swiffer commercials, BTW. I'd love to have a steam mop.

I couldn't live without my dry swiffer sheets for quick cleaning. They slide under my sleigh bed and all my furniture that is low to the floor. I slant it on my baseboards and it removes a lot of dust and lint.
If the floor seems extra gritty (dry mud carried in DH's boots) I will sweep with a soft bristled Old Cedar broom before swiffering. That is usually just in the mud-room and kitchen. Who am I kidding?? He can manage to make his way half-way through the house before he takes his boots off :).

When I am deep/thorough cleaning (two or three times a year) I use the hard floor attachment on my Rainbow. It can be a PITA, but I know all the dust and grit get pulled out of the crevices.

Refuse to use the wet swiffer systems on my wood floors. Only use microfleece pads and vinegar water. Plan on getting the Bona in the future after hearing such good things about it I do keep a box of wet swiffer sheets for when I am in a hurry and need to mop linoleum in laundry room and one bath. I am not overly concerned about any damage here as these floors will be replaced this year.

Have no clue what a Swiffer does. I sweep the hardwoods in the kitchen/keeping room daily with a broom and also use the stick vacuum. When serious cleaning is called for I get down on my hands and knees with a bucket of white vinegar & water and a few cloths. I dry as I go .

Ttodd, it's a non-toxic, inexpensive, general purpose cleaner.

Like Natal I am a huge fan of white vinegar and water for wood floors. Cheap, natural, shines the floors, no build-up. My DIL mopped my kitchen and open areas for me a couple of years ago when my mother was terminally ill. She used a floor cleaner (Pledge, I think) designated for tile, linoleum, or wood. The next time I mopped with my vinegar water, I could feel the build-up from that cleaner - took a couple of vinegar water moppings to remove. Same thing with Murphy's Oil - which I used to use.

I have heard some negatives about the the acidity in the vinegar not being good for floor finishes, but I don't make my mixture very strong. I did some research on some of the pro floor fourms - some say yes; some say no. I don't mop nearly often enough - so it is probably not a problem.

For tile and vinyl, I mix up a 1/4 cup white vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda, a tiny dribble of dish soap (we have soft water, so maybe half a teaspoon) and a gallon of hot water to mop with. It's cheap, nontoxic, smells fresh without being overly chemically, and does a fabulous job of cleaning.

For spot mopping with the Swiffer and general all-purpose cleaning, I use a mix of 1 tbl. borax, 2 cups of hot water, 3 tbl. white vinegar, and 1 tbl. of dish soap. Again, cheap, nontoxic, works well, smells nice but doesn't make your nose burn, and you can use it on almost any surface. And those proportions fit well in any generic spray bottle.
