Any tips for working with fondant (1st time)

Hi!

I'm new to this forum, but was wondering if you had any tips with working with fondant. I don't like the way it tastes, but a friend requested fondant on her b-day cake that I'm making tonight. I bought pre-made fondant at Michael's crafts in the baking section.

Any tips for this first timer? Thanks so much in advance! (The cake will be a 2 layer cake--9 inch rounds--for the bottom "tier". I was going to put a square 8 inch on top of that, then a smaller circle at the very top)
