I just scored the most amazing deal..........

I LOVE, I mean LOVE Craigslist!!

I just bought 11 pieces of Cutco for $100.

Chef's knife

Basting spoon

Spreader

Carving knife

Paring knife

Table knife

Peeler

Turning Fork

Scissors

Vegetable knife

and cutting board

I added up the retail prices for all but the cutting board and it's $540! They are brand new from a young man (20s) who was going to sell, but changed his mind I guess.

Woo hoo!!!!!

Me too! But I only have(had) the 10" chef's and the 4" paring knives. They are used constantly!

They really fit my hand well.

Suzie, Founder's Day is just a small town fair. Lots of great BBQ (cook-off), an opening parade, arts/crafts booths, expensive carnival and two stages with music all day/evening. My favorite thing about it is seeing people you know. It really feels like small town. Unfortunately, we're just 10 miles west of Austin, and those "dang city people" are moving our way in droves. I was one of those city people just 5 years ago, but I LOVE my small town. I wish I could close a gate across Hwy. 290 with a big "You can visit, but just don't move here" sign across it. How did your weekend go? Did y'all bring home any livestock? Did you see in "Journal" that Tracy's husband lost his job?! Recipes: We decided on the Raspberry/Rhubarb because something like apple would have been too labor intensive. It was very simple. CRUST 3 cups flour 1 cup Crisco 1T. sugar 1 t. salt 7-9 T. of ice water The trick with pie crust is to not overwork it. I use a pastry cutter to cut the crisco into the flour/sugar/salt. Then put about 7 T. of water in the mix and push it together with a fork. Then add the other 2 T. of water if needed. Push all the crumbs into the dough and give it about 2 good squishes to make it into a ball. Cut the ball in half, cover each half in sarah wrap and put in fridge for at least an hour. Roll out and place "bottom" of pie crust in pie plate before you mix your filling. FILLING 5 cups frozen Raspberries (thawed/room temp.) 2 cups frozen Rhubarb (thawed/room temp.) 1/4 flour 1 cup sugar 1 t. almond extract (or vanilla) several dollops of butter (optional) OR 6 cups Granny Smith Apples (sliced thin) 1 heaping Tablespoon flour 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp. vanilla several dollops of butter Gently mix all of it together. Pour into pie shell. Add top pie crust, cut slits in the top crust to vent and bake at 375 degrees for about an hour. I have to cover my crust with foil about half way through the baking time to keep it from getting too brown. My main hint is to roll the crusts out between sheets of saran wrap. It keeps the dough from picking up any extra flour (it's not needed) and it's really easy to pick up and transfer to the pie plate.

It is so unfair that some of us our out preening and carefully fertilizing, watering, pruning and primping and you can plop a tuber in clay soil to produce that monster, in August yet! Good job MissLucinda. Despite our wonder-weather, or maybe because of it, alot of my blooms are smaller than usual this year too.

As Bob shared the Forum previously was more strict than it is today, and we have no active moderator so we have to monitor ourselves. If we fail to keep postings on-topic over time the Forum would become diluted, or could become more of a social site. This is one of the reasons the separate Conversations side was created some years back. Our continuing effort to stay on-topic goes hand-in-hand with other accepted ideals as to participation; i.e. to avoid chat room formats by keeping information together on an existing thread rather than starting a new thread with additional input, and not hijacking a thread into a different direction. Though admittedly at times a thread does take on a life of its own. I am a member of a couple of computer help forums where the off-topic area is more active than the computer dedicated area. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that as I do like stopping in on occasion and sharing a few moments, but if you lumped both together the computer help would suffer, and that is why we are here. Great deal Deanna! I love Craig's list. I've bought 2 tables, a foyer table for $100 and a fabulous coffee table for $150. I love them both!

I have not looked at Craig's List since Christmas and it's time I got back to it. I wish we had a truck as there were several bed frames I would have loved and they were straight out of the 1920s too and so cheap.

On the other hand, it may have prevented a divorce...

Sometimes DH just rolls his eyes when I bring something new home and says "You've been on craigslist again, haven't you?".

Hee hee.......good thing he loves me!! (and vice versa).

And, I'm getting ready to take mine in. Free sharpening. I drop em all off, and pick up a few days later - freshly sharpened. And if there was something that looked bad about anything, they replace it free. I would say that something is replaced each time I take them in...

I have their garden ratchet pruners, too, and left them out. They got all yucky and when I took them in to get them sharpened and cleaned up - they replaced them!

3 or 4 years back, the church kitchen was gifted with a set of cutco knives. Well what with general abuse and the beliefe that only a glass or hard plastic cutting board is proper, they are very very dulled. There is a cutco sharpener in the drawer....the kind that you draw the knives through....but try as I might, I can't seem to make any difference in the dullness of the blades.
Is ther something special to sharpening cutco knives? or can I just take them to the local knife sharpening service?
They are so bad you can;t even cut up an onion easily!
What's the best way to proceed?

I have that sharpener too. It seems to work fine for me, nothing special. Just a few swipes through it and the knife almost cuts tomatoes by itself!!

Maybe because the blades are 'so far gone', it doesn't work as well?? I would certainly think you could take them to a local place and they can put a new edge on them.

What's the worst that could happen? They're not any better and you could send them back to Cutco....

Maybe it's time to "gift" the church with some "nice" cutting boards. (grin)

Stacy, it's probably a good thing I don't live so close to Cutco........I can't afford to live close....

I really like these knives. They may not be 'top of the line', but they sure work well for me.

i have an "original" set. i love them. last night my son's friend came over to give his sales pitch as he just started selling for them. i did buy the garden pruners, since i have more knives than i will ever use in this lifetime or any other lifetime. hopefully the pruners will stand the test of time against all the other ones that i've been through.

linda, as far as i am aware, you should be able to send them back to cutco as they have a lifetime guarantee and they will sharpen them. if you take them elsewhere, it might void any guarantee.

I didn't know that....I will check that out.
They "live" in a knife block...but who knows what happend between the time they leave that block and are returned!
I bought some higher end Chicago cutlery knives....and keep them in the locked cabinet with the silver service! LOL! Anyone can get the key and open the cabinet...but it seems the word is.."Linda will get you if you use her knives!!"...and that's fine...when I am wirking in the kitchen, I can say...please don't open that jar with a knife.."
Where do I find about sending them for sharpening?

sorry, evenings are tough for me to get on - but Deanna has great information.
Cutco is wonderful about upholding that lifetime warranty. You should send them in. It is an amazing difference. You will have to warn people to be careful with them!

Used it for the first time at Christmas, to buy a S'mores Maker for DD. They're impossible to find in stores or online. I know they're hokey, but she and her BF had been using a candle to melt marshmallows and that didn't set well with me. New in the box for $15 - I was happy.
