Restaurant Supply North Chicago Area

I have searched and searched and searched for a Restaurant Supply or Cake Decorating Supply. I can't seem to find anything.

All the supply houses listed seem to be on the southside or south suburbs.

Anyone know of any Restaurant Supply or Confectionary Supply house north of the loop?

Not being subborn but I have a terrible time with driving directions south of the loop and the south suburbs are a nightmare.

I'm also looking for a really good Italian Deli. I think Peppi mentioned one some time ago and recommended their Italian Sausage.

I couldn't find sanding sugar for my cookies this past holiday!
Asian food markets? Italian? Forget it.
When you get there Michelle, look around for me :) I love perusing grocery stores no matter where I might be.
I seriously think I would enjoy being a personal food shopper.

But Deborah, you COULD drive to Surfas? Sufas? That could be my downfall.

Michelle, keep the info when you get it...Dick and I will be in Chicago in March and I know what I want to do, and it's not opera!

I'm going to try and make it but as I said, will be coming empty handed. Among the few things I have that could be split at this point are hostas of various kinds but that's a real yawn for most people here - we all have them! My coreopsis are big enought to split, I suppose - it's been such a slow start. I'm only a couple of blocks from the lake so haven't had those afternoon warm-ups that happen even a couple of miles west of me. Do we get a Cliff notes handout for nicknames/real names? I just started coming to this forum and can't even link up nicknames with specific posters yet. Mental-pause is a terrible thing ;-) stage rat - Cocktail dress? What's that? Oh you make me laugh. It's a red letter day when I get out of my jeans or workout clothes!

Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill in Chicago grows much of his own produce. We did a gut on our home including 5 full baths and 1 half bath. I ordered all our faucets and toilets, several sinks and even a vanity and mirrors from Studio 41. They were cheaper on everything, including online sources, and free delivery too. Since it was such a large job, it took me several months to make all my decisions. And then there were several things I needed at the last minute. Studio 41 was great and sent the items Next Day Delivery and again no charge. I had to return a faucet as it just was not working out and no problem with the return. Andrea is the plumbing designer and she was wonderful. I live in Barrington Hills and both Insignia and Bath of Barrington are too darn expensive and...well the sales people were not very cooperative either. Michelle

We finished our basement before we did the kitchen and all the plumbing fixtures from the bathtub to the kitchen sink and everything in between including lights and counters all came from Studio 41. I did a lot of research and still hadn't found GW when we did that remodel. I did, however, find better prices on some items BUT all I did was bring in the print out and they matched or beat every price. IIRC that was a $200 savings on each of the toilets at least over their store pice so don't be put off by the pricing. When we did the kitchen, I bought our manhandle there. They matched an online price I had as well and this time it was just one item not $1000's. As for the kitchen, I HIGHLY,HIGHLY,Highly recommend Ayr Cabinetry out of Nappanee, Indiana. They are custom builders but again, when I shopped by price, they were very comparable to local big box stores. The big advantage is they custom make every unit to fit. I do not have a single inch of wasted space and there is not one piece of filler in the entire kitchen. In addition, they do not know the meaning of the phrase "it's not possible". They were a pleasure to work with and the resulting kitchen is top notch in every way. Michelle, check out the GFS store nearest you. I don't know what you are looking for but GFS is a resturant supplier the experimented with a retain store and now has quite a few. They have certain things that I like really well. They also have a hugh selection that is not carried in the retain store. The last I knew, they will let you go through the catalog and order things to be picked up there at the store. Beware though...big quanities apply.

Well....I have to confess and this is a secret at least until the bill comes.

I just ordered $$$ worth of cupcake and cookie confections, doilies, dragees, pearls, luster dust, gel colorings, edible glitters and miscellaneous other stuff. I will link the online source below. So far they had the best prices on what I needed and a wonderful selection too.

I know.....I know....I could get along without it. But I love decorating my cookies and I want to start seriously making cupcakes. So I'm looking for a local complete confectionary that sells cake decorating supplies...the good stuff!!!

I've been researching and collecting ideas now for about 6 months and it is time to get the ball rolling.

I forgot to mention that this is all Marigene's fault for sending me the Cookie Book which is fabulous! Over the weekend I read the entire book, cover to cover!

Nancy, thanks so much for the link. There is a Gordon Food Service not too far from me and I will check it out. GFS did not come up on my many google and yahoo searches.

It should be a fun trip for me and it's not too far from my favorite Homegoods store!!
