Yes, I like those cubbies. My issue is not finding pics of cubbies though, it's with where to put them. I'd like to have them hidden in a closet of sorts. Does this make sense?

i checked the link above and the built ins shown at the top look great. they have doors over them but if that's not what you mean then i'm confused... do you mean a walk in closet filled with cubbies? what's your layout like?

Yes- I want them in an enclosed room instead of right out in the open. Our plans will be similar to these but we will be making some changes.

In the plan your posted, I guess the laundry room is the "mud room" and side entry? Would the cubbies and mud room storage be on the right, across from the washer-dryer? If so, maybe you can put up a nice heavy curtain hung on rings or something. The kids could pull the curtain aside, stow their stuff, and then close the curtain.

i guess you want a mud room? kind of hard to throw out ideas when you don't really have a dedicated "space". you need a plan first. i am in mud room fascination mode right now ...i'm in LOVE with the idea of my mud room. GL.

Can you move the powder bath to underneath the stairs (yes I've seen this before) then use the powder bath space as a cubbies room? You all will likely most often enter through the garage correct? So your kids/you will have to go into the laundry room if you put them there. Honestly though an entry that makes guests go through your laundry room is going to be more of an eyesore than some haphazard cubbies. At least in my experience there's often laundry waiting to go in the machine, or in a basket right by it, or stacked on top of it, whatever. If you don't know when people are going to drop by and use that entry you're either going to have them stepping over piles of clothes or always have to keep your laundry room clean.

Good idea and good point jeannekay. We are actually changing the laundry room and it will be on the other side of the house, closer to our bedroom so that idea could work. My husband doesn't see the need to hide the cubbies but he also doesn't "see" clutter like I do! I love the cubby idea but I don't want it to end up being a "catch-all" for evrybody's stuff and I have a feeling it will be just that. I want to weigh all of my options. Thanks!

the thing is, the cubbies or mudroom is supposed to be a "catch all for everybody's stuff". if you want it hidden, just do cubbies with doors. and you're not talking about the main entry, but the side door, right?
my secondary entry will have an eight foot wall of closed cubbies (w/doors & bench, shoe & boot storage, hooks and shelving). the opposite wall will be another run of cabs for pantry and add'l storage. i have no problem with anyone seeing what i am considering to be one of the best features of the house. call me crazy but i'm an organizational fanatic!
