Ducted Ductless? Are ducts insulated enough?

I am hoping to catch the attention of David-Cary, energy rater, etc...

My original post was over in HVAC and is linked below. I am not getting much response (and it might just be too unique a question; or I might not be asking it well).

Anyway, my new question that goes with it is--the ducts that they'd run would be in unconditioned space, but would be "insulated" (R-8). I'm being told not much loss would come about because the air is not sitting there; only traveling through them. True?

I live just outside Seattle, whatever climate that is.
