Update on Saturday's party

As you can imagine all went well and everyone had a great time. Almost 30 of us when all was said and done! Several of Meredith's friends dropped by to say "goodbye" and of course lingered for food! LOL

I went with David's ( and others ) idea. All the fixin's for a casual "build your own" bar .

Some wonderful crusty Italian buns with meatballs, grilled brats, pulled pork as the choices for mains and

sauted mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, kraut and slaw as the toppings. Lots of tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, sour cream, pickles etc to dress as you wished! A potato salad,, more slaw and a Caesar salad for sides.

Birthday cake was store bought and disgusting sweet but they ate it all!

Everyone loved it all...and boy was it messy!

Well, I've been watching a lot of Food Network this morning and they seem to be making lots of dishes with garlic. Since it's so close to Halloween I wondered how the whole garlic and vampire thing came into being. Some people believe that the association of garlic warding off vampires has to do with bug or animal bites. One is rabies. You can get rabies from any animal bite from an animal that has rabies. Remember Cujo (Stephen King) getting rabies from the bat? Anyway, I guess if you have rabies you become fixated on certain scents. One of them being garlic. Another theory is that of mosquito bites. Since mosquitos suck blood, they fly and can be warded off be garlic, it's not a difficult jump to vampires (if you have a vivid imagination.) Anyway, here's a little more info! Yes, 24 and owning your own home is something. It was a lovely party, and everyone brought gifts and more. I think most females who attended were in awe of what this young woman has accomplished thus far. She was engaged two years ago and caught her fiance with someone else. He didn't think it was a big deal, but she did! She owns a dog and plans on being a foster parent. Though it was a bit tacky hinting at a gift, she told me that everyone had mentioned wanting to bring a gift and wanted to know exactly what she NEEDED. She had already gotten stuff from family members that were three of a kind, or just plain not her style, so she figured if people wanted to bring something, she might as well guide them. However, she did say that it was not necessary...I didn't mind, and I got her a basket with lots of gadgets and some pretty dish towels in her kitchen colours. I think we need to support the younger generation, and especially women who are willing and able to live on their own like this.

I don't understand why you take comments so personally or as a criticism. It's not about you - people are just adding their own experiences about products you start threads about. You seem to get very defensive if someone doesn't agree with you about something you like. I do think this product is useful. I would use it.

It does sound great, I wish I'd have been there too, even if it WAS messy. I'm sure everything was delicious, even that cake.

Give Meredith a great big hug from me and then have a glass of wine. Or two. You've earned it.

I should clarify, it wasn't messy from a serving or clean up perspective, actually because everything was premade it was a very easy meal to put out and clean up from.

The " messy " came with the actual eating, let's just say it requires lots of napkins but everyone was so happy to kick back , dig in and hang out.

I would highly recommend this approach to anyone serving a large crowd in a casual setting. It can all be done ahead and everyone can do what suits there own tastes.

I saw weird combos but what the he!! .......
