I just had an Electrolux oven installed two days ago, there isn't enough of the rest of the kitchen installed yet, so I haven't used it. All I did was run it for a while to burn off the new smell.

I don't know if other modern ovens do this, but I entered in the temp (350 degrees) and pushed start. A moment later the display showed the actual oven temp as it was preheating. I was able to watch it rise in temp about 1 deree every 2 seconds. When it reached 350 it beeped to let me know it was ready.

I does a million other things too, but that feature seems to be very handy.

The main reason I am replying here is to tell you what the installer told me. He is independent of the store. He said that he was glad I got Electrolux, and said that Kitchen Aid isn't as good as it used to be. I didn't ask him about Kitchen Aid, he just brought it up for some reason.

He also told me that sales guys don't like to recommend Electrolux because they don't give salesmen kickbacks like many other manufacturers do.

All that was installed was a 30" single oven - Electrolux Icon Professional. I also ordered a Icon Professional High Speed oven, someone messed up the order so I'll have to wait to a couple weeks for that.

I have learned though my kitchen renovation that just because a company is local, it doesn't necessarily mean they'll give you the best service. In my case the local service was pretty pathetic.

People on the forum have great success with Eurostoves and they sell Electrolux. In our town Sears just set up a large Electrolux display. You might want to give them a try to get look before you buy. The installer who came to my house told me something scary- Sears has a new program where when a customer needs to have something installed all the installers on their program can immediately start to bid on the job. That means that you are always going to get the cheapest guy available. Would you trust a guy who's willing to install a new oven for $25?

Through this process I have come to realize the internet shopping isn't about getting a better price, it's about being able to choose the BEST company in the country to buy from. I live in a little po-dunk town called Los Angeles. It's hard to find quality service and selection in this little 15 million in population town. I can only imagine how difficult it must be people in a smaller town than mine ;)

I'm sure you'll get some great advice here on the forum. Please keep us posted with your experience!

I'm very interested in this thread. I was going to get the Electrolux but had to change my mind to a Kitchen Aid. Basically, due to it's design, the Electrolux handle would have dented my fridge door when it was opened. I would have gladly upgraded to the Icon model (better handle design) but Electrolux doesn't make it in a 27" and I don't have enough space for a 30". Kitchen Aid 27" wall oven has a curved handle which solves the problem. I'm a little nervous about the move to Kitchen Aid. Hopefully it's not as bad as Jay's installer says it is.

Interesting comment about the handle on the oven potentially being hit by an open refrigerator door.

Our wall oven location is at the end of the cabinetry next to a short hallway. The previous oven's handles caught me in the shoulder occasionally as I turned the corner, so when we shopped for a new oven the swept/sculptured handles of the Dacor Millennia style caught our attention. Unfortunately, however, the fancy schmancy handles don't hold a towel as easily.

It is unfortunate about the towel rack. The wall oven will be our 2nd, smaller oven (36" wolf range also in the kitchen) and I'd rather have a not-dented $4000 fridge than an towel rack so the Kitchen Aid is it. The Dacor is a beautiful option but expensive. The Miele's are even nicer with an awesome rotisserie built-in (on the masterchef series) but also VERY pricy. That would be my option if I had to funds.

On the more affordable side, between the Electrolux and the Kitchen Aid, I'd take the Electrolux or Electrolux Icon if I had the option of going with a 30" wall oven. Only hearing good things about the Electrolux.

We're going back and forth between the Electrolux E30EW65GB ('regular' Electrolux 30 in double oven in black and the Electrolux Icon E30EW85GSS (Designer Series Icon double oven). They both seem to have the same specs for the oven power.

Regular Electrolux pros and cons
PRO
- Available in black - all of our other appliances are black
- Deeper racks - 15 inches
- Slightly cheaper - no big deal
= Seems to be available from more outlets
CON
- Door/rack design prevents using the glide out rack on the lowest position
- A little more protrusion from the front of the cabinet (less than our current 19 year old KA, though!)

A question, if anyone has seen one: On the black oven (I've never seen one in person) what is the finish on the trim that is between the door and the cabinet. On the SS, it seems less well designed (style not function) than the Icon, and if it is SS on the black oven, I think it would be noticible

Electrolux Icon pros and cons
PRO
- 3 full ext glide out racks per oven. More than makes up for the cost difference
- Rack and door design allow use of glide out on the bottom position - Love that smooth inside glass door
- The overall design (style not function) is slightly more appealigng (except for perhaps the SS).
CON
- Shallow racks - 14 inches
- Stainless Steel - we've just about gotten over this, but still...

Has anyone been bothered by the fact that the three glide outs/oven are in fixed positions on the Icon? This is somewhat eased in my mind by the fact that you can use the offset rack in any of the positions.

I sure wish there was somewhere in the Denver area where you could actually see all of the possibilities in person, and then we could make a final decision.

BTW, I had the new Jenn Air ovens on my check it out list (even though lots of folks here don't like the brand), but I finally saw one. Their "glide out" racks are a joke! They only glide out about 50%, and the rest you have to slide on a normal embossed runner.

I think my brain is saying "get the KitchenAid" and my heart is saying "get the Electrolux"

I'm also looking at the EW30EW65G, but in white. I've seen the stainless but not the white or the black.

My concern with the Kitchen Aid (KEBS208SBL) is that the wattage ratings for each of the elements is lower than the Electroluxes (Electroluxi?). In particular, the KA broiler is only 6-pass compared to 8 for Electrolux, and is 3250W compared to 4000W.

It does have the flat glass door that we like. I think the glide out racks are somehow not quite as good, but they would be acceptable. There is only one for each oven, but additional racks can be gotten for about $92 each.

The additional concern is reliability, but I don't have a warm, fuzzy feeling about any of them any more.

In any kitchen you will always need to compromise a few things.

A dent in the refrigerator door would be a bad compromise.

If you use the oven every day then maybe you should find a way to afford a Miele. I haven't heard a single bad thing about them.

If you use the oven once a week then I'm sure a Kitchen aid can hold up. Just do as much research on your specific model to make sure that it isn't known to have issues.

You might also look into Bocsh. They might have what you need.

Yes indeed, it is all about compromises! That being said, it seems as though the two Electrolux ovens I detailed previously, are the only ones that come close in the price range (~$3,000 for a double convection oven with some nice features) that we've budgeted.

Now, it's a question of which compromises to make between the two Electrolux choices.

I looked at the Bosch, but it does not have convection in both ovens. I won't use the ovens every day, but when I bake, I like to bake big! I really hate having to wait an hour for the apple pie to get done before I can bake the custard - or not being able to fit 10 small loaves of quick bread in the oven at one time.

From a cost standpoint, I can't even justify paying $3,000 for ovens when I have one that works just fine that is paid for and only 6 years old. I made it 30 years and raised two kids on home cooked meals without ever owning a range that cost over $600.

A double wall oven will not add a dime to the value of my home either - but I saved for a year so I could afford to get the induction cooktop and double wall oven.

But I think I'm going to get the Electrolux units. I keep thinking I should get the KA but I'm just not as comfortable with that decision. I like the looks of the KA better, but I am worried about reliablity. For that reason I'd rather not order the appliances online, but if i get them locally the KA ends up costing the same as the Electrolux, and I believe the Electrolux are better.

I'm way more excited about getting the induction cooktop, and if I could find a slide in range I remotely liked I would probably go that route.

I just worn out by it all and don't want to have to think about it anymore LOL!

I just watched the video on the "Perfect Turkey", I believe that nowadays that 180F is too high. After resting 20 minutes it would be even higher.

Can the temp be lowered?

Settled on the Electrolux appliances. DH weighed in on the side of the Electrolux and since I was leaning that way too, we placed the order.

I like the new style Icon induction cooktop better than the older style. It gets rid of that SS band between the elements and the controls. The display units I saw had that bar all scratched up.

We got the double wall oven, but not the Icon because I wanted it in white. The wall oven has a rebate starting the 24th, the the salesman is going to write up the order that day so we'll qualify. Not bad getting more $$ off the price.

We looked at dishwashers and fridges while we were there, but we will be using our current ones for now. I love the french door fridge with the freezer on the bottom so we'll make sure the cabinets are tall enough for one to fit. Dh hates our current dishwasher, but for the reason that it squeaks when you open and close the door and he has not been able to get it to stop. All our appliances are 6 years old our newer so they should last a bit longer.

But it sure does feel good having that decision part over - now I can concentrate on what type of counter top I want.

macybaby: Way to go on making a decision - and it sounds like you're getting a good deal with the rebate! As I stated previously, like you we want the oven in non-stainless steel (we want black).

Were you able to see one in black or white? My question is regarding the trim strip between the oven door and the cabinet front - is it finished like the front of the oven (i.e., black of white) or is it stainless? I'd prefer the color match, but haven't been able to see one.

I forgot to ask about that when we ordered. I sent an email to the sales rep, we'll see if he responds.

When we were first looking I did see this unit in black, but didn't pay any attention to the trim - it is likely they had not put the trim kit on as it was just in a dispaly with a lot of other models, not one that was real cabinets.

It's been a while since you posted that you bought the Electrolux double wall ovens. How are you feeling about them at this point. We are looking for new appliances and the ovens are presenting the biggest challenge!
