Haven't done it yet (have to hang curtains first - don't want stuff falling on the TV) but the mount should have directions. Make sure you screw the mount into studs. If you have a closet behind it should be pretty easy to put the 'stuff' (DVD player?) in the closet and just drill through to feed the cables. No conduit or wall plates required if it's an interior wall and the hole(s) are behind the TV. Where is your cable connection right now? You may want cable guy to put it higher than usual (behind the TV) so that won't show, but if you already have it on that wall your DH can move it and doesn't have to make it look pretty. What about the TV power cord? Where are you going to plug the TV in?

Thanks, ajsmama. My situation has changed in the past hour or so! DH now says let's put it on the bureau we have, because the bureau is where the cable hookup is now. Okay, that's easier but here's my next question. Long ago, I saw in a catalog a sort of "stand" for a TV that could sit on top of a bureau, and under it you could stash the cable box. So it was almost like a shallow wooden box with only two sides, turned upside down. I don't know if that makes sense. If we put the TV on top of the bureau, our cable boxes are long and low, so that would be awkward along with the TV on top of the bureau (the bureau isn't much wider than the TV would be). If I could find one of these wooden box thingies, that would be great, but needless to say I don't know what they're called so I can't search for them! I think Pottery Barn used to sell them too, to go on top of a bureau or dresser, but I don't see them any more.

This is kind of what I'm thinking of... except we don't need a swivel, but I could get this if I couldn't find something else.

One thing to bear in mind -- You'll need a clear 'sight line' between the remote controller and your devices (DVD, Cable, etc.) for the remote to be able to work. It would hardly be relaxing to get out of bed every time you wanted to change the channel...

We just upgraded our bedroom tv from an old 27 inch tube to a lcd 37 inch. My husband had built a stand for the old tv which was basically a a piece of wood with two narrow pieces of wood for sides.

The Tivo and cable box sat on the dresser under the stand and the tv sat on it. We spray painted the stand black. It looked much like the stand in the link. It was very easy to build.

We upgraded to a HD Tivo and sat the new tv right on it. It seems to work great.

Sue, dh made one of those swivel boxes years ago. We kept the VCR in the base. I sold it in a yard sale a few years ago.

If you could store the cable box somewhere out of sight, there's a system called an extender that allows you to control the remote via infrared. We use one in the keeping room. The TV sits on top of a cabinet and the digital box sits below it behind cabinet doors.

For those who still need more info it is simpler than you think.
We have tv over fireplace. All components are in office on the other side of one of the livingroom walls. We have a HDMI line that runs from the tv down the wall, inside the baseboards and into the other room. You could do this with crownmolding too. The receiver has a HDMI that goes from the back of it to the line that runs to the tv. You could have the tv line just go into the next room or you can do what we did. We put a plate on the wall like the one the cable tv comes on. The line from receiver screws into the little metal thing on the plate and the line from the tv is inside the box in the wall. All our components plug into the receiver. I also put an outlet behind the tv to plug it in. No lines showing anywhere. We have one of those remotes that work off radio? signal to turn on and off.
For those who don't want to do that you could simply put all components in closet. Put a box in wall with plate on both sides. Drill holes into the plate or use a plate with a square opening. Run the cables to the tv through this box. Again, you could move the outlet higher up to hide the plug. Again use the special remote to operate things.

One thing to keep in mind!!!!! Buy your HDMI cable online. We paid $3 for a line the stores and installers charge $50 for, no kidding. Do your research. We saved hundreds of dollars.
