Wolf wall oven owners--willing to weigh in?

Like many others here, I can't decide between the Miele and the Wolf for my electric wall oven. I have been leaning toward the Miele because there are no complaints (other than price!). Wolf seems to have some issues with hot controls? Also fan noise seems to both some people.

I have looked at both ovens in live hookups. It looks like the Miele is more functional. Neither seemed to be very noisy or warm to the touch.

I'm no chef, but I cook for a family of 5 and we are the house were everyone gathers for the holidays and big family dinners. Plus, somehow I turned into the house where my teenager's friends like to hang, which means I often cook for a couple of extra kids. That said, I am attracted to the idea of being able to stick a thermometer in a roast, type in the weight, hit "Go" and get a perfectly done piece of meat. My daughters love to bake, and I do like to play gourmet on occasion and whip up fun things like soufflÃ© and pie.

I can tell that I will get my wish list met if I go with the Miele, but will the Wolf do it too? I kept telling myself the Wolf was out of my price range, but today, the quote I received was about the same for a self cleaning Miele ($3700).

Anyone willing to give me their opinions?

I can't speak to the Miele, but I have owned a Wolf wall oven since this past July and I love it. I particularly like the temperature probe feature -- I finally was able to have a perfectly-done turkey this Thanksgiving.

In this price range, I don't think you can make a bad purchase. I'd suggest downloading the owners'manuals for both models and comparing the features.

We too have had our Wolf oven since July and love it. We were originally going to purchase a mid-range oven but got an excellent deal on a Sub-zero and figured that since we'd gone high end there we should just go ahead and get the Wolf. We love it. Used the probe for the first time last weekend and were extremely pleased with the results and simplicity to use.

There won't be many reviews of the Benchmark series because they didn't come out very long ago. I do know at least one person on this forum has one though, and they love it. Cooktop: To be honest I don't really like gas cooktops so I'm not too familiar with the different offerings out there. If I had to buy one I would get Bluestar or Thermador because I believe they have the best burner designs (most powerful and most even). There are other factors to consider though like grates and burner/control layout and unfortunately I think both of those have center controls. I think the best thing you can do here is go to a showroom and maybe bring your pans. Personally I prefer induction cooktops, or, if it has to be gas, a rangetop. Hood: It's a fan in a metal box. Not much to go wrong. Buy the one that you like the looks, features and price of. Stay away from the no-name, obviously made in China ones that are only available online. Dishwasher: Bosch vs. Miele is a tossup. They are both good quality, Miele slightly more so but with a price to match. Again pick the one with the looks and features you want with a price you can afford. Make sure to bring your dishes to the showroom and make sure the racks will work for you. Fridge: What type do you need? Freestanding/built in/integrated? What width? French door/single door? I am having the same problem with an LG/purple enamel interior after Thanksgiving dinner for a group of 10. I served dinner and later tried to remove the burned on spots after the oven cooled and after 4 days and using the Easy Clean function twice daily, most of it is gone but there are still black spots all over the sides and bottom. Customer service told me to try the baking soda and vinegar, then oil, letting each sit 3-5 min. That didn't work. Next, I was told to try heating the oven on a low temp, spray a degreaser and then use a Scotch-Brite non-scratch pad. I did but it wasn't very helpful. I asked customer service how to avoid this again and was told that I should put cookie sheets on the racks under the food next time. I bought this because I was told by the salesperson that the Easy Clean steam function would take care of any cooked on food. It doesn't. This enamel should not be sold with this function.

bee - what I'm saying is modification doesn't have to sink the boat. Almost all ovens have a different size requirement for the cutout. This means you are very likely to need " modification" to your oven cabinet UNLESS you choose an oven with the EXACT same cutout size as: 1. the oven you currently have 2. the oven that was specified during ordering of your cabinets because that's what size the hole was cut for at the factory. Since very few ovens have the same size cutout requirements, I saying am you are likely to need modification for YOUR oven cabinet anyway. OI am also saying that the cost for such may not outweigh savings you got on an oven in the secondary market. The gaggenau in this case. That modification may be one that makes the opening bigger or it might be one in which you need your current opening made smaller like cate tells about. Here's a cheat sheet: 1. Size of current oven opening 2. size of oven being purchased i.e. A,B,C,D, ect... 3. If not same - find installer/carpenter to make opening correct size and how much will it cost? 4. Cost of new oven (A,B,C,) + modification (if any) equals cost of decision. A. = x dollars B. = x dollars C. = x dollars you'll then have a handy matrix to easily tell you if the gaggenau is cheaper than the wolf or if another is still cheaper yet. Again - you are probably going to have modification cost no mater what you choose!

A lot of bad info in recent comments... "Speed oven is a type of microwave." No. A speed oven is not at a microwave of any sort. Speed ovens are often combined with a microwave but the speed oven is totally different technology, usually light. Combi Speed/MW have an advantage in being able to use both technologies to produce food that is enjoyable to eat and retains nutritional value. "Microwaves give off radiation, destroys nutrients in food." No. From a purely nutritional standpoint cooking in a microwave is extremely good and preserves nutrients better than most forms of cooking. There are dozens or hundreds of studies on this that you can find online. That said, I don't like the taste and texture of microwaved food. For veggies steaming is nearly equally as good as microwave from a nutritional standpoint but produces more enjoyable food to eat. I also love to roast veggies but roasting does reduce the nutritional value significantly more than steam or MW. ---- From an overall health standpoint, ANY harm from a microwave (and we still don't know if there is or not) is likely far less than that from traditional cooking (induction, gas or electric coil) with a poor range exhaust hood that results in VOC's and Carcinogens spread throughout your house.

I have a Wolf wall oven as well.....have been using it for about 6 weeks now....I am very happy with it. The convection on this is amazing.....3 racks of cookies all done to perfection (much to DH's sadness - he kind of like the extra well done cookies that would come from the bottom rack of my Maytag AG convection). The temperature probe works well and in general I am really happy with it.

The fan noise isn't an issue for me - I don't really think it is very loud - in fact I had both the Wolf wall oven and the Wolf range oven going all day yesterday and I didn't really notice the fan noise from either.....the controls don't seem to get hot although I must admit that I haven't gone looking for that either.

We chose Wolf because of the kitchen design we had we wanted the microwave to be on top of the wall oven and the pair worked for us (actually, DH chose it over the GE monogram that I was good with).

I don't think you would go wrong with the Wolf wall oven...

Thanks for these opinions. I too am concerned about the "look" with the speed oven I picked to go above my wall oven, like theknitter01's DH. Thanks to this forum, I HAVE to have an Advantium!

I have the Miele. I was down to the same 2 choices when I replaced my oven. I made the right choice for me. Both are very good and well recommended. They operate differently though.

If you do a search you will find multiple threads where I go on about this oven ad nauseum. It has made a tremendous difference as I use the oven far more than the stovetop.

The Miele requires a learning curve but it has, as you mention, a lot of very handy programmable features. I was leery of those but have learned to love them.

You won't go wrong with either one. Since you've seen demos my suggestion is to read the operating manuals online, if you haven't already done so. That helped me quite a bit.

Assuming you are talking about the Miele Masterchef I think the main difference is are you a "digital" or "analog" person? My wife is analog, and she likes things simple. We bought the Wolf double ovens. Having to scroll down through lists of menus on the Miele was not to her liking. We also thought the Wolf was built much more solidly than the Miele... but they are both very nice so I doubt you can go wrong.

Solid does does not equal reliable. Old cars with carberators were solid but were they reliable? Miele has been building electronics for their ovens long before Wold. Remember Wolf I think was going down the tubes till Sub-zero bailed them out. If anyone knows for sure hime in on the Wolf bail out.

I plan to go to a live Miele demo before we make our mind up. The Dacor stuff appears on the surface to be good but after reading some comments on line I'm a bit relucant...

We came down to the same 2 choices as well. Since we already had Wolf (36 inch AG and love it), we stuck with Wolf for this appliance. We moved in to our new house 2 weeks ago and I used the Wolf wall oven for the first time this week. I cooked corn bread twice and it came out perfectly. Limited experience granted but so far so good. In our case, we matched the Wolf wall oven to their warming drawer but did a separate microwave (the MW drawer...love it too). This way, the warming drawer is at waist level and not all the way to the floor. Works great for us.

I understand they have changed the wall oven and no longer have the rotating control panel which would not bother me. They also now have 2 models and from the looks of it, one is an economy model and the other similar to ours but without the rotating panel.

We also put in a 60 inch Bluestar which rounds out the kitchen and it absolutely kicks butt. I have never cooked on something with that much versatility in power and capability.

Anyway, our Wolf wall oven is very stylish, equally quiet, comes to temp quickly and cooks well so far.
