Victoriajane, I love your house, it's beautiful! kec01, thank you so much for posting that link, it's amazingly helpful. Victoriajane, we have a 1898 home, not as fancy as yours, but I've been hemming and hawing on colors as well. Our small stained glass is similar in color to yours, our larger one (will put photo below)is similar in that the dominant colors are flipped. Most Victorian colors were earth-toned, but with that, I think in the 1890's it was really almost anything goes, so it gives you a bit more licence to do what you'd really like. I would suggest sitting with paint swatches right by the window and pick 4 that you really love that go with each other. I second slateberry's drabby color suggestions and would put those with the right "feel" of light- read lucy's warm- cool suggestion, next to the appropriate windows. Then would maybe "pop" the dining room and/or parlor with brighter jewel tones. For the wall around our larger stained glass in the hall, I wanted a warm neutral (yellow-brown) to pick up the yellow light that comes through the window, also to make the cooler blue and cooler pink to pop. Here's what I have (forgive the quick paint job, I am indecisive with paint and need to live with it a bit before committing): the paint color is SW stonebriar (which is close to BM Shelburne Buff, also close but yellower is Chestertown Buff): In our livingroom, I wanted something deeper but classic and neutral enough to go with my red velvet and gold brocade victorian furniture. I think I'm going with SW Bunglehouse Grey- it's a arts and crafts color, but since that's an offshoot of Victorian, I'm not too concerned. That's close to BM Kingsport Grey and BM Nantucket Grey. It's actually not at all grey, despite the photos: Again, please forgive the lousy paint job, it's not the way it will look! Let us know what you choose, I'm still totally undecided about the dining room and would love to hear what direction you went in!

Ms222 Oh my, what a great house on the water. You love modern...really nice table and chairs. If you go all modern and plan on keeping the same kitchen floor plan you will have to replace all the doors top and bottom, eliminate the two short staggered cabinets on top and add cabinets in their place on the same line as the others. Eliminate the upper moldings style and backsplash; the countertop would work fine as is. Eliminate the chair rails and replace all interior doors. I would paint your walls in a flat paint and see how you like it and then decide when or if to eliminate the texture. When I painted my son's textured walls in Behr porpoise gray flat paint we had to touch the walls to even know the texture was there. However, it's hard to see how much texture you have in your pictures and we don't know if there is texture behind the chair rails. Anyway, after all that you'll have a good start on transforming it all to a completely different look. I know it might seem overwhelming but once you get a start on it it will be fun. I almost envy you because I'm a gal who needs projects and mayhem; I'm in limbo now just fixing things up to sell for a future downsize. Not fun! In my next house I'm hoping to do a completely different style. I want to buy the little stinky 60's house across the street from the waterfront mansions. Then I plan on becoming their very bestest friend and ride around in their yacht lol. Jill, please post after you go to the NY store and tell us of the quality. I have never actually touched Lillian August furniture. I really love so many things on the online site though and like the fact that there are a few things in my price range. I guess the two floor colors. We can't really judge the colors with the unfinished floor other than which ones we like better in and of themselves. So I vote for the warm ones! They seem to go well with your warm tile samples too. I'm not sure what backdrop means in the above photo. The reason that there are 3 finishes is that doors with glazing do not have the backs of the doors glazed. They are painted only as the standard finish. The white door back is the original door color before the glazing occurred on the front side. With a few mistakes of a glaze on them from handling during the hand glazing process. The natural wood tone is the standard interior finish for all brands of cabinet boxes. It provides a light cleanable surface for interiors, sides, tops and bottoms, that will not be seen in the design. The whole box will be finished in the wood look, standard. You choose different upgrades for ends that will be exposed, or interiors that will be exposed. The cabinet box that has the matching painted and glazed interior is intended to be exposed as either an open cabinet or one with a glass door. That is why there appears to be 3 different finishes involved. Because there is, but that is normal. The use of a glaze on a slab door is usually discouraged in large print in a spec book. In most medium to high end lines, it is not even available without a special order and a waiver being signed. What was the design philosophy behind choosing a painted and glazed slab door?
