I couldn't tell any difference,

I never tried them before but I think if you make sure to keep tomatoes out of the same drawer as your other produce, they last way longer! I'm not sure what else gives off that gas besides tomatoes though.

I use them all the time and I think they do a great job of keeping my produce fresher. Certainly lettuces, celery, radishes, broccoli, and green onion last a lot longer than regular plastic bags. I haven't done any side by side tests but I like them!

As for tomatoes, they really should not be stored in the fridge. It damages the flavour and texture quite a bit.

I have done side by side tests, and found they make an big difference. In the summer, I can put zucchini and peppers from the garden in a greenbag and have them be perfectly fresh two weeks later! In contrast, even fresh picked zucchini starts to turn to mush in a plastic bag after a week.

I've tried several brands with some working better than others. They work by removing the ethylene gas that causes the produce to ripen.

I have some but really didn't see a huge difference, so i don't use them much. Maybe I should do a side by side test....

I use them all of the time and think they are great. They are better for some vegetables than others. I don't think they do much for tomatoes. I wouldn't be without them for sweet peppers, squash and romaine.

With celery I prefer to wrap airtight in a plastic wrap. It lasts and lasts this way and this method works great on fresh iceberg lettuce too.

I have used them for several years because I do find that they work. I press out as much air as I can without damaging the contents. I keep the bags along with clips in the crisper drawers to remind me to use them.

As recommended, I never store tomatoes in the refrigerator and I like the paper towel-foil method for celery.

My veggie drawer is full of them...love how much longer produce lasts.
Especially lettuce & mushrooms.

I did side-by-side tests as well, and thought the bags worked better than a regular bag or plastic container - with the exception of a vacuum-sealed canister (FoodSaver) for fresh leaf lettuce from the garden. The FoodSaver worked best for leaf lettuce. Now I have green storage containers and they work just as great as the bags.

One thing I did notice... If you store bananas in the green bags, leave them in there until you use them up. Once the banana/s are taken out of the bags they deteriorate VERY quickly. I took three bananas out to make banana bread one day, and before I got it made the formerly yellow bananas were completely black after an hour, and the bananas were very soft.

Is this a "results may vary" moment???

Are you all using the Green Bag brand or just the cheap dollar store ones? Does it matter?

I bought an off brand through reuseit.com (no affiliation, just a cheap price). I DID do a side by side on bananas and found a big difference. I didn't notice the faster ripening that grainlady posted, but then I probably just pulled one out at a time and ate them! LOL

I use them regularly for a lot of my produce and am happy with the results. I've used several brands and don't see a lot of difference.

Arkansas girl, I use Evert brand green bags. I'm sure there are others just as good. We are not talking of those green bags that Target has to put their produce in though. They are not the same.

I ignore the part about only being good for so many uses. I use them until it's clear they no longer want to play.

I had some that Beverly sent me and I liked them a lot, so well I bought more. Like Chase, I used them until they wore out and then got some more.

I've never seen the containers, now I'll have to look for those, I like that idea better than the bags, I think.

I think they work well for some things, not much difference in other things and I never eat bananas so I couldn't conjecture on those.

My experience with the green bags and bananas,
Wasn't good.
The bananas looked good, stayed a nice even yellow for several days.
BUT! When I pulled one out & peeled it,
it was over ripe, browning mush inside,
in spite of the nice, perfect outside appearence..

I am one who prefers bananas firm and even a little on the 'green' side.

But the number of posters here that like the green bags
makes me want to dig mine out & try a side by side test.

What are you talking about? You mean the green bags they sell at Target aren't any good? What kind of bags does Target have to put their produce in? Are you talking about the produce department in a supercenter(we don't have supercenters here)and the bags they give you in a roll to buy your produce? Why would we be talking about those bags?

I mentioned those bags Target has in the produce department to carry home vegetables in because we have had this conversation about bags before on this forum and someone thought that was what we were talking about. Just trying to be clear.

Aaaaaah I see. Because the OP was pretty clear about that they were talking about the type you buy off TV or in the store. I just was wondering if the cheapy ones like they sell at Dollar Tree would work? I'm probably best to stick with a higher quality though like the Debbie "whatshername" ones?
