Yes, I use the EvertFresh bags for my produce when I changed their location in my fridge from the vegetable bin to the door, ala Bud. They work wonderfully well and I highly recommend them. (I wash and reuse them.) I haven't ever put bananas in my fridge, or tried the bags with those since I'm usually trying to get them to ripen...

I'm lovin' this ''system'' since I made the change. We use up the fresh stuff much more readily now.

I have been using the Evert Fresh bags for several years; they have save me significantly from having to throw away produce. I have never used them for bananas.

A few months ago I bought the FoodSaver FreshSaver containers. A replacable disc in the lid contains the same "whatever" that the green bags have to keep produce longer. I like them but the bags are more compact.

I ordered some and rec'd about 4 weeks ago - I love them so far. Love them. Lettuce lasts longer - and I DO keep my bananas in one and they DO last longer. I ordered the Debbie Meyer Green bags from the website.

For those items that I always have (lettuce, bananas, grapes, cilantro) I wrote on some bags with a perm marker. I don't always have to wash them in between uses that way. But for other stuff, I have definitely washed and reused, already.

claire, thanks for the link, that is definitely something to think about - especially with my french door fridge - veggeis on one side fruit on the other... :-)

If you go the website route, just remember what you are there for and don't get sucked into all the extras they try to talk you into at the end - lol.

I bought two sizes of bags and have plenty of extras. And even the smalls are fairly roomy.

I'm anxious to start picking up my CSA produce this year - and being able to store it longer.

I have never tried Green Bags, although I have thought about trying them. I did purchase a Zyliss Salad Spinner in January because I was so tired of my lettuce going brown withing a day of opening it (I buy the packaged salad since only I eat it). I was shocked to see that it kept the salad fresh much longer, and after washing! I usually washed greens as needed so they would last longer. I bought the small one that holds 3 servings of greens. One day I accidently bought a larger bag of salad. I washed and spun what fit in the spinner, and then proceeded to forget that it was in the fridge. A week later I realized I never used the salad, and the salad in the spinner was still fresh and crisp! The salad left in the bag was brown and soggy. Made me feel better about my purchase since it showed just how well it works.

What fruits/veggies have y'all found these bags work well for? And which do they not work well for?

i've had lettuce keep for WEEKS in the green bag without any deterioration. also had luck with parsley, cabbage, and carrots. just make sure the veggies are dry when you put them in the bags. i just noticed last week our local grocery store had them for sale in the produce dept. i got mine from amazon a while back.

I love them....they keep all my product in the fridge fresh about a week longer..great for bananas, and mushrooms.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the EvertFresh bags. They are truly amazing -- a huge lifesaver especially in the summer for me, when zucchini will keep in them for easily two weeks and still be as firm as when I picked them...

QVC had them as a TSV about 18 months ago. I've been using them ever since & love them...especially for strawberries, cucumbers, greens, mushrooms, & herbs.

I've been washing/reusing the same bags. Do these things ever need to be replaced??

Tricia, You can reuse the 8-10 times. A tip that I read was to cut the top of the bag slightly each time to track usage.

The large are very large - 1 1/2 gallons so I haven't bought them. I usually buy 1 medium package and 2 small packages when I replenish.

Cathy talked me into buying them when we where in Houston last year and I forgot I had them until 3 weeks ago. I had just bought a 2 pound bag of Spring Mix salad that day so I divided it up. One bag is used up and was perfectly fresh last night and the other is still in the bin, and looks great.

I will keep using them!

I'm confused... On all three sites, they all say that the ethylene gases cause the problems and all three products absorb and remove those gases... But.... On the FreshSaver containers site it says that if the filters ( they're supposed to last for 3 months ) get wet you have to toss them out... On the EvertFresh and the Debbie Meyer Green bags sites ( both, 8 to 10 uses ) they say to make sure your produce is completely dry before putting it their bags... That's where my confusion comes into play... If one item ( the filter ) has to be tossed out when it gets wet how do the bags still work after you wash them???

Yes, I use the Evert bags also, especially for lettuce. They didn't seem to work that well with cilantro which I love and which goes bad quickly. Thanks to this thread, I'm now thinking that the cilantro isn't dry enough when I put it in the bag. Will try to make sure it is dry in future tests. THANKS!

I wouldn't be without the Evert bags! They have saved me a ton. I use them for cabbage, lettuce, sweet peppers, squash, turnips, Kale and I don't remember what else. Almost all vegetables. Romaine will stay fresh practically forever in those bags. I haven't had much luck with them keeping bananas and green onions very well.
