GE refrigerator fresh food compartment not cold
Comments (9)>>"Can you tell me what the voltage should be?"Nope. My guess is that the voltage will be 120v but I do not know. Is there a wiring diagram somewhere, maybe on the back on or in the compressor compartment? Have you tried searching for one online? I posted here because it sometimes helps get discussions going when folks see that there are responses to your OP. I'm hoping that somebody more knowledgeable will jump in. For the meantime, here are my further thoughts. In parts drawing you linked to, I see only one evaporator fan. If the freezer is cooling to 0F, I would think that the fan would be working. Generally, the evaporator fan blows across the evaporator and funnels cold air to the fridge and freezer. Again, I don't know anything about your model of fridge, but the symptoms would make me look for icing somewhere. Maybe your defrost heater or timer are failing/failed and the evaporator has iced up? Can you access the evaporator? (My recollection is that you might have to remove a panel on the back of the fridge to find the main controller board (with timers), evaporator, defrost thermostat defrost-heater. The parts drawing makes it look like some of these parts might be accessible from the front, but that might just be the way the drawing displays the parts. Another thought: if the fridge side is running but just not getting cool enough, have you checked the door gasket and how well it seals? Yet another thought: sometimes circuit boards get confused and need to reboot. On some fridges, you can do this by unplugging the fridge for five minutes and then plagging it back in. Is this a fridge that was made for GE by LG, by any chance, and does it have incandescent bulbs for interior lights? LG side-by-sides had a spate of problems with light switches sticking in the on position and the heat from the incandescent bulbs heated the interior (like the old Easybake toy ovens). Find the door switches and make sure that they shut off the lights. Have you searched sites like fixya.com? They might have a specific page(s) devoted to your model of fridge where you might find some more specific advice. But, maybe you've been there and found nothing useful?....See MoreAir conditioner does not blow out cool air anymore
Comments (5)Common Problems With Air Conditioning. Open Windows One of the most common problems with the cooling system in your home is occurs when doors and windows are left open. You might be surprised at how often just being vigilant about doors and windows can significantly improve the cooling process for your home. Low Refrigerant Refrigerant is the chemical that cools the air within your AC system. Low levels of refrigerant could mean there is a leak, or an actual problem with the refrigerant system. If your AC system needs to be recharged, most of the time that suggests there is a leak. Leaky Ducts, Bad Air Flow Leaky ducts or improper air flow are another very common culprit for why your AC is not cooling properly. Inconsistent temperatures often are an indicator that this is the problem. If there is a leak somewhere in the line then the cool air that is moving from your unit through your home is not making it all the way to where it needs to go. Filters and Coils Check your filters and coils. A dirty filter or coil will restrict your air flow and keep your machine from running at peak efficiency. Clogged Drain A clogged condensate drain on your unit can cause loss of efficiency and cooling. It is best to get a certified HVAC technician to check this for you, it is bit more technical and it is better to be safe than sorry. If you break something it could cause a much more expensive repair later on. Outside Fan The outside fan is responsible for conveying the heat from your home to the outside air. If the fan on the outside isn’t performing correctly, the proper heat transfer cannot take place, the air conditioning compressor may overhead and trip the safety overload. Solution The best and most effective way to prevent these problems is by participating in a preventive maintenance program. Comments (30)"He had the same conclusion as yours says it is short cycling due to leaking of freon." I did not say the short cycling could be due to a freon leak. I did say it could be due the condenser being increased in size. I don't understand how a loss of freon could cause a condenser to short cycle. Perhaps you misunderstood what the contractor said. But if he made that statement then my confidence in his ability continues to go down. What exactly was replaced? So far I know it was the condenser. I hope he replaced the coil in the attic. Was the furnace also replaced? What about the line set (the copper tubing running from the attic to the condenser outside}? Normally on an attic installation that is not replaced since it is running inside walls. The old line set can be reused but it must be flushed out properly. You can't mix the old and new refrigerants. But, if the condenser was increased in size, the line set may be too small (diameter) to work properly. This is another reason not to be increasing the size of the condenser. Has the contractor returned yet? If there were air flow problems while running the AC, then there will be air flow problems with the furnace. Those have to be fixed. Make sure the air flow works well in the spare bedroom. Just because you rarely use it does not mean it should not heat and cool properly. All bedroom vents should have approximately equal air flow. This should not be too difficult with the furnace installed in the attic....See MoreGE Cafe owners! Give me your experience/advice GE Cafe Refrigerator
Comments (12)Hello all, No I did not end up with the GE Cafe fridge. If you all have read reviews, NO refrigerators have good reviews as far as reliability. I ended up with the Samsung 4-door, French Door, Food Showcase (which is the door-in-door feature). I had time to watch prices since we were in renovation and the Samsung was $1,100 cheaper than the GE Cafe for the same amount of space and I got a couple extra features like the water bottle that is in the left door and refills itself automatically. I thought that was a dumb feature, but now that I have it, I see I use it a lot! It's much faster to pour the water from the pitcher if you are filling up a larger bottle or pitcher, than to wait for the little water filler on the outside of the door. And it was my hubby who wanted that 4th door---which is the drawer right above the freezer. I wasn't sure but I love, love, love that! It holds all our cheese, yogurts a few cans of pop or water, and if I have a half a lemon or something like that, which would normally get lost in the fruit or veggie bin, I just pop it right there in the front so it is not forgotten about! The only complaint I have is that the ice maker takes up room in the top left side of the fridge. You don't have this with the GE. But we got the big 28.7 cu. ft. one and we keep a lot of food and have had no issues with space. As far as reliability, since ALL brands seem to have bad reviews, I figured the best thing I could do is get the most extended warranty possible. So I got the Citi Visa which adds 2 years to any warranty (yes---that's a feature of the card!) as long as the total warranty period is not longer than 7 years. Bought it at Home Depot along with the 5 year extended warranty which was around $295 I think, and then Citi will extend the warranty out two more years to SEVEN years! If a fridge is going to be problematic, I figure it will do it in the first seven years. And they will repair but will replace if they have to come out more than 3 times. So I figure I saved about $1300 including taxes by choosing the Samsung over the GE Cafe. As far as my GE Cafe range and microwave, yes I have loved them both so far! Had the range about 6 months and the microwave about 4 months. I got them both in stainless. Someone asked how far it sticks out from the cabinets. I can see about 3/4" of the black side of the oven sticking out beyond the cabinets and then of course the entire oven door sticks out beyond that. I don't mind the handles sticking out beyond that. It seems normal to me. I love having the double oven and the convection feature, although for 95% of the things we do, we can use the upper oven. There is planty of space fo almost everything including a cake or a deep casserole dish. I use a lot of cast iron so that is good, but I had some old Revere Ware stainless that I thought I could use. They are all good except the ones that have copper bottoms and they won't work on this stove. The microwave is a microwave! Haven't used the convection feature on it yet. Anyway, I would recommend both appliances although they are a bit pricey. They do look great in the kitchen!...See Morenerdyshopper
