Why did you choose your GW name?
Comments (85)I usually use a combination of mine and my husband's names. At other forums I am jdkline but I wanted to change it to a shortened version of my name here. d is the first letter of my first name and kline is my last name. 2008 is the year I joined gardenweb. I am a moderator at 2 other swap sites and thought I could fly under the radar here but I didnt change my name enough to do that. Every now and then one of the members will private message me and say....I saw you at garden web. LOL I love the people here and at the other site. Both sites are awesome. But I come here for my garden junk inspiration and to be with people who think of junk as gold as I do. This forum is so inspiring to me. I come and post for a while then I get busy and dont post for a while but I ALWAYS lurk at least. LOL The talent here is awesome and the people are very nice. I really admire any place I can go on the web that has such talent and harmony. Everyone here is so wonderful and caring and I think that's what makes it special for me. Calamity.........what a wonderful accomplishment!! I know your very proud of yourself. Deb...See MoreWhy does everyone seem to be in love?
Comments (81)The chemical soup of love for my (dog) kids is pretty darn close to the joy I feel when I get to work on my new island...so the word 'love' seems to roll off the tongue quite easily, although I'd take my kids any day over anything kitchen (and lots of other things for that matter :). But, this space is exactly what I wanted, and I really didn't care what was in or expected. The work spaces to the left and right of the stove are perfect for tons of reasons. And i love the 18" wide elevated 'L' clear of my work space and large enough to be a useable space all its own. Facing our open space and looking out front and side windows while prepping and cooking (as I do all prep, except rinsing, next to the stove) is the best feature. I hated staring at a wall while working in the kitchen...I feel set free from a claustrophobic prison. (can you tell I have some intense reactions to being boxed in? ;-). As soon as we elevate the island hood, all will be perfect!...See MoreWeek 61: Why did you join GW?
Comments (53)Like many I joined because I found the best advice on this website. I've had to learn some things along the way and I find some satisfaction in trying to tell other people what I have learned before they find out by making a mistake. I really enjoy the pros on this site because they really do know what they are doing and don't hesitate to say so and sometimes they have a completely different reason for the same conclusion and that is always very interesting. But what I have appreciated most is the variety of people and the variety advice given (especially on the design and decorating side). I also enjoyed this weekly column, particularly when people post pictures from other parts of the country or from outside the country and I realize that life is just so different and so much the same. The part that has been hard to deal with is when the GW site joined Houzz, my perception of many of the Houzz users is that they have a great deal of money, an intense desire for perfection and very little time or patience as they pursue an expensive lifestyle, not because they are personally interested in such a lifestyle but because they can and feel the need to show that they can. Interestingly, I think that many of those members slowly find themselves drawn into the online community, as it is the community aspect of GW that is the most interesting. Thank you again for this week's post....See MoreDoes anyone use GW with Windows 10?
Comments (20)Whoo hoo -- It's working!!! All clear on all channels and we didn't do or change a thing on this end since yesterday when it wasn't working. Son predicted this might happen as sites and programs across the net are upgraded. Bob says it's because I was patient about it. Someone wisely said, "Infinite patience produces immediate results". Well, guess my patience wasn't exactly infinite because it took a week. Oh well ... :-) Anyway, thanks for 'holding my hand', so to speak, by offering possible causes and solutions while I practiced patience. And I do appreciate my son who spent hours and hours last week fiddling with every setting he could think of. He was about ready to change out the whole thing. Happy computing!...See MoreBeth Parsons
