About to finalize our appliances package...
Comments (13)I don't have 12 years industry experience but I do know how to spell GE Monogram. IMO Great, Top notch Fridge - Sub Zero BI48S/O n/a 48" built-in side x side, panel ready Range Top - Capital Culinarian CGRT366NG s/s 36" gas rangetop, 6 burner Microwave - Sharp KB6524PS s/s 24" microwave drawer Fine Warming Drawer - Kitchen Aid KEWS105SSS s/s 30" warming drawer Bar / Wine Storage - U-Line 2275ZWCOL-00 n/a 24" undercounter wine unit, 2 zone I like the least. Hood - Vent-a-Hood PRH18342SS s/s 42"w x 18"h Professional style hood, 1350 cfm equivalent When a company is selling you a "magical" systen that is just as good as other companies with higher specifications beware. At least have the sales rep show you how you clean this system. I would look at Prestige,Modern Aire, even the 1000cfm Kobe before I would buy the VAH. Bar Ice Machine - U-Line CLR2160B-40 black 15" undercounter clear ice machine This is likely to last you 2-4 years before it starts giving you headaches. I would get the Hoshizaki.I think all the appliances on your preliminary list are made in the USA and with the exception of Sharp are American companies. The Hoshi is made in Georgia and is a lot more reliable. It is not a little better but a lot better. It is twice the price but worth it IMO. A notch below is Manitowoc. They make under-counter ice-makers for Sub-Zero. Very expensive. They sell equivalent units under their own brand without residential warranties. Double Oven - Viking VEDO130SS s/s 30" "1" series double oven, upper convection (CLEARANCE ITEM) I would strongly prefer the Wolf.It seems Viking oven reliability has improved the last year or two but I would not pull the trigger. Companies like DCS have tradtional knob design. I would look there before buying Viking. I would probably get something else. Washing Machine - Whirlpool WFW94HEXR red 4.3 cu ft Duet front-load washer Dryer - Whirlpool WED94HEXR red 7.4 cu ft Duet electric dryer If it has to be Red & American then there is really no choice. If it just has to be red I would get the equivalent Samsungs. If it does not have to red just made in the USA I would hunt down a pair of Bosch Vision on clearance. Highest washer temps for USA available washer at 170 degrees. On board heater engages in all cycles.True European Wash or as close as USA available machines get. It divides cycles into 12 temperature zones and washes at least 3 minutes in each zone. Removing 99.9% stains and not allowing 99.9% of stains to set it. Dishwasher - Kitchen Aid KUDE40FXSS s/s 24" undercounter dishwasher I would read through linked thread and similar before pulling trigger. I still like made in the USA Bosch better and Miele best. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchenaid dishwasher vent issues...See MoreAnyone want to pick an appliance package for me?
Comments (9)Antss, Thanks so much for your response. We are a family of four, me, DH and four-year-old twins. When we remodeled our last kitchen we had a 36" full-depth KA French door fridge, and an extra old fridge in the basement for overflow, which we only needed for holidays. We have always had and will have in the new house a chest freezer in the garage. I was just assuming the loss of refrigerated space from the KA full- depth might be an issue. It looks like we will go from 17.5 cu ft in the KA to 14.3 cu ft in the Thermador. We do cook a lot and we do shop at Costco, but I think we always accumulate stuff in our KA because of the depth. Perhaps the counter depth will keep things from getting lost in the back. I'm hoping so. We are open to having an auxiliary fridge if necessary, but somehow it seems like more of a pain to deal with than having an extra freezer. The way the Thermador deal is structured is that if you buy a cooktop and ovens (or a range) you get a free dishwasher. If you add a refrigerator, you get free ventilation. Switching out the ovens won't work to get the deal. The total of just under $14K I listed above above includes a Sharp microwave drawer (obviously not part of the package), but I am open to any undercounter built-in micro. No matter how I figure it, if I want a built-in fridge I can't come in much below this price without severely diminishing quality of the other appliances. The free DW and hood total $3800, so it's quite a lot of difference to make up. So your only item of concern with Thermador is with the ovens? Thanks again for your help! Comments (13)"because I was told that my house will need it for resale." You may have been told that, but is it true (i.e. reasonable), or just what someone thinks would be "cool" or give him/her a bigger commission? Is it common in your neighbourhood among other homes? As long as your choices aren't built in or custom sizes, they could be replaced. "Range- I want induction I am pretty sure Wall oven" Yes on induction, but do you want a range, or a cook top and wall oven? I know the current trend is to a split cook top and wall oven, but you have to consider the space and whether it's reasonable given the size and layout of the kitchen you're having built. Some kitchens would work better with a range. "Do I want a steamer oven?" I would say no; if you don't want one yourself, I don't think they're a high end desired products, at least not yet. "Do I want anything else?" Consider getting a double oven, or two wall ovens. Don't forget to consider what style of range hood you'll get. Consider a second/stand alone freezer for extra freezer space....See Morelooking for suggestion on kitchen appliance packages
Comments (4)GE is horrible, very poor longevity. You will pay for the “value” of GE when you replace them sooner than other brands. I just had an upright freezer from GE die after 25 months of use. GE admitted it was a young life to die, but offered little assistance. I lost the cost of all food in the freezer. Lesson learned: avoid GE. Look at their social media website, nothing is resolved to the benefit of the customer. All talk of how concerned they are with no substance to support or demonstrate this....See MoreRelated Professionals
