About to finalize our appliances package...
Comments (13)I don't have 12 years industry experience but I do know how to spell GE Monogram. IMO Great, Top notch Fridge - Sub Zero BI48S/O n/a 48" built-in side x side, panel ready Range Top - Capital Culinarian CGRT366NG s/s 36" gas rangetop, 6 burner Microwave - Sharp KB6524PS s/s 24" microwave drawer Fine Warming Drawer - Kitchen Aid KEWS105SSS s/s 30" warming drawer Bar / Wine Storage - U-Line 2275ZWCOL-00 n/a 24" undercounter wine unit, 2 zone I like the least. Hood - Vent-a-Hood PRH18342SS s/s 42"w x 18"h Professional style hood, 1350 cfm equivalent When a company is selling you a "magical" systen that is just as good as other companies with higher specifications beware. At least have the sales rep show you how you clean this system. I would look at Prestige,Modern Aire, even the 1000cfm Kobe before I would buy the VAH. Bar Ice Machine - U-Line CLR2160B-40 black 15" undercounter clear ice machine This is likely to last you 2-4 years before it starts giving you headaches. I would get the Hoshizaki.I think all the appliances on your preliminary list are made in the USA and with the exception of Sharp are American companies. The Hoshi is made in Georgia and is a lot more reliable. It is not a little better but a lot better. It is twice the price but worth it IMO. A notch below is Manitowoc. They make under-counter ice-makers for Sub-Zero. Very expensive. They sell equivalent units under their own brand without residential warranties. Double Oven - Viking VEDO130SS s/s 30" "1" series double oven, upper convection (CLEARANCE ITEM) I would strongly prefer the Wolf.It seems Viking oven reliability has improved the last year or two but I would not pull the trigger. Companies like DCS have tradtional knob design. I would look there before buying Viking. I would probably get something else. Washing Machine - Whirlpool WFW94HEXR red 4.3 cu ft Duet front-load washer Dryer - Whirlpool WED94HEXR red 7.4 cu ft Duet electric dryer If it has to be Red & American then there is really no choice. If it just has to be red I would get the equivalent Samsungs. If it does not have to red just made in the USA I would hunt down a pair of Bosch Vision on clearance. Highest washer temps for USA available washer at 170 degrees. On board heater engages in all cycles.True European Wash or as close as USA available machines get. It divides cycles into 12 temperature zones and washes at least 3 minutes in each zone. Removing 99.9% stains and not allowing 99.9% of stains to set it. Dishwasher - Kitchen Aid KUDE40FXSS s/s 24" undercounter dishwasher I would read through linked thread and similar before pulling trigger. I still like made in the USA Bosch better and Miele best. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchenaid dishwasher vent issues...See MoreNegotiating a deal on high end appliance packages?
Comments (32)@geoffrey b - I had to replace several appliances over the past 15 years. The dealers delivered into the house and provided installers (additional cost) to properly move and install the appliances. This includes a wall oven and a built in 36" refrigerator. I provided installation instructions to an installer who ignored them, basically. This came from a very large dealer in my area but none of his people really knew what they were doing with what I bought except the guys who installed the washer/dryer. Other brands perhaps. Initially, I inquired about who would do the warranty work on my appliances and even called them. They were very nice. Then one guy became ill and they went out of business. It was a mess after that. When the fridge door was recalled there was no one in the area who would agree to do the work. Unfortunately, it's difficult to make decisions based on service issues these days. How delivery works can be tricky and needs to be clarified in advance Then there may be additional steps. As I said, a bargain can be expensive....See MoreKitchen appliance package
Comments (13)"because I was told that my house will need it for resale." You may have been told that, but is it true (i.e. reasonable), or just what someone thinks would be "cool" or give him/her a bigger commission? Is it common in your neighbourhood among other homes? As long as your choices aren't built in or custom sizes, they could be replaced. "Range- I want induction I am pretty sure Wall oven" Yes on induction, but do you want a range, or a cook top and wall oven? I know the current trend is to a split cook top and wall oven, but you have to consider the space and whether it's reasonable given the size and layout of the kitchen you're having built. Some kitchens would work better with a range. "Do I want a steamer oven?" I would say no; if you don't want one yourself, I don't think they're a high end desired products, at least not yet. "Do I want anything else?" Consider getting a double oven, or two wall ovens. Don't forget to consider what style of range hood you'll get. Consider a second/stand alone freezer for extra freezer space....See MoreBest value appliance package (pro style)
Comments (6)No packages. Nobody makes great in every class. Packages lock you into a bad choice with a good choice. Except with Viking, it locks you into all bad choices so the salesperson can earn a big spiff. Pick the best in class that you can afford for every category. A pro style range requires a pro style ventilation system that includes Make Up Air. Appliance sales people also conveniently forget to tell you to budget as much for ventilation as for the range, and you get blindsided when you find out its needed. Read up on here about some brand basics and really assess how you cook, and how you want to cook when the project is done. A good Kitchen Designer should be advising you with the hundreds of decisions that you have ahead of you. Good luck!...See Morefriedajune
