The only picture I can find on the web is Bluestar's facebook page and I don't know how to download it and post it in this thread but link below.

The picture is on top and again a few postings below if you scroll down.

On the show,the character Max refers to the Bluestar as the muscle car of ovens. She has a picture of a purple BS she refers to as kitchen porn; it is something you pine for but it is too expensive to actually buy.

Her roommate and business parter pawns some expensive rings and buys a RAL 4008 Signal Violet 30" RNB with matching knobs for themselves and (ironically)their home based cupcake business.

On most tv shows high-end kitchens have Wolf/Sub-Zero and sometimes Viking/Monogram. Cool to see one from the GW tribe for a change.Cooler still that it is not in a high-end kitchen.

If you go to BS Facebook page, they have the entire show linked and they tell you what times the BS is referenced and shown. I think it's around minute 5 and 19 into.

I immediately thought of Garden Web when I saw the show! Maybe the set designer on the show is a Kitchen Forum lurker!

Mary, I don't grow Hybrid Teas, but I do grow this row of Johann Strauss http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.3514&tab=1 which is a Romantica/Floribunda. I planted them in 2002 with the graft buried 6 inches below the soil line. I have bark chips on top and they winter kill to the ground every winter. Each spring they come up and have 3 bloom cycles. 2 of these roses are own root that are buried 2-3 inches down. Doing it this way always gives me 6 inches of surving cane. I have not lost any to the weather. They are close to the house but I had 3 planted farther out that I took out because they got so tall. The graft on them was buried as well. Here they are today, getting their water with the drip system. Here they are in their first bloom cycle from an earlier year. I plant all of my roses using this method, the rest of which are Austin roses. I rarely lose a rose except in the windiest part of my yard that doesn't get snow. Rebecca

Hi Jim: Mas mentioned that she's applying silica ... known to strengthen cell-wall. I checked on potassium and disease-prevention, and found this in Wikipedia, "In agriculture, some cultivars are more efficient at K uptake due to genetic variations, and often these plants have increased disease resistance.[1] The mechanisms include a decreased cell permeability and decreased susceptibility to tissue penetration. Silica, which is accumulated in greater quantities when adequate potassium is present, is incorporated into cell walls, strengthening the epidermal layer which functions as a physical barrier to pathogens. Potassium has also been implicated to have a role in the proper thickening of cell walls." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potassium_deficiency_(plants) **** From Straw: I notice that my disease-resistant roses: Basyes Blueberry, Excellenz von Schubert, Knock-outs, Kordes Flower Carpet, Annie L. McDowell, Marie Pavie, Bolero, Christopher Marlowe, Frederic Mistral, Old Port, Lilian Austin, and Nahema have THICKER LEAVES than flimsy Gruss an Teplitz' leaves. The disease-resistant own-roots are more efficient in getting potassium from the soil, than Dr. Huey's parent, Gruss an Teplitz. I notice that when I bring down the pH of my alkaline tap water through a bit of vinegar, ... the leaves of Sweet Promise rose became thinner, and more wilting in hot sun. So I checked on that, and a few University Extension mentioned that as the pH drops, levels of calcium and potassium are less available. There's the misconception that the pH has to be slightly acidic for roses to bloom best ... that's NOT true. The best tons-of-blooms in HMF are from sandy alkaline gardens, such as of Kitty Belendez in CA, she uses a soluble fertilizer mix, including kelp meal. Seaweed has alkaline clay soil, and she gets tons of blooms with soluble fertilizer. Alkaline soil pH doesn't matter, since plants can do acid-phosphatase (secreting acids to utilize phosphorus in soil). Dr. Huey root-stock is good in acid-phosphatase for blooming, but lousy in getting potassium from the soil. Here's an excerpt from eHow: "Potassium levels increase with higher pH levels, so acidic soils, which have lower pH levels, tend to have less potassium content than alkaline soils. According to professor Linda Chalker-Scott, potassium levels are particularly low in sandy acidic soils. Amending Your Soil: If your soil has low pH and potassium levels, you should apply lime to increase soil pH. For potassium-deficient soils that are not acidic, fertilizers such as potassium sulfate (sulfate of potash) may be more appropriate." *** From Straw: below is Annie L. I had a sudden oven failure in my older 30" RNB, and happened to see the obvious cause. I don't have a wiring diagram, but the circuit is so simple that it's not really necessary. The line from the plug goes along the side of the range to the control knobs, spark unit and igniters. It delivers 120v to the thermostat. When the oven or broiler is switched on, the thermostat passes that 120V back to the thermovalve, which in turn sends it down to the appropriate oven or broiler igniter, which in turn connects directly to the neutral wire from the plug. My range's problem was caused by a misrouting of the wires that bring power up to the oven igniter. Instead of having been passed through the big hole that's obviously provided for them at the front of the range, they were pinched between the side panel and frame of the range, squeezing them very tightly. Finally the insulation degraded enough to cause a short, with a moment of sparking that made the location of the problem obvious. The short damaged the internal circuitry in the thermovalve, which is not protected by a fuse, so the thermovalve is shot. It only hurt the oven-side circuitry; the broiler, which is handled by the same valve, is fine. It's conceivable that such a short would knock out the thermostat, but in my case it didn't. I will have to replace the thermovalve and the wires going to the igniter, rerouting them to avoid a repeat performance.

Okay...I'm just going to do a 'girly' kitchen with pink :) Jack and Michelle just bought this cute cottage, with quite the front garden. Michelle is planning to put lots of pink roses in the garden and would like to put some in the kitchen, too. From Pink kitchen The kitchen is not in bad shape...and they really can't afford a major remodel right now. Jack wants some kind of wood floors, but otherwise only asks that she not paint the cabinets pink. So, Michelle finds an inspiration kitchen (on Gardenweb) that she loves and knows it will look great with the wood floors. It's a bit fancy, but they don't have kids...and they have a separate family room, so Michelle wants this to be her 'girl space' for tea with friends. From Pink kitchen If they install the flooring themselves and paint the cabinets, the backsplash and marble should be affordable! So, Michelle's thinking of using roses on the backsplash. Ka-ching! Everything old is new again. Straight back to the fifties when TV ensembles would hawk sponsored wares in 60 second vignettes while still "in character."

They used to do a fade to black so the audience could tell it was a commercial. No need to bother with that anymore!

If we didn't have product placement in shows, I'd not know what to buy since I skip commercials. I love the car ones. USA network is really bad ("Don't worry. My Ford won't let me crash into that thing.").

But I especially love "Hawaii 50" because the bad guys always drive Fords that get demolished while the good guys drive a different GM in every scene.

My spouse and I laughed at the Bluestar in that show--funniest thing on it so far--but I hope BS didn't pay for it. It shows a hideously tasteless version of the range in an unpleasant setting. Bluestar just dropped a few notches in the desirability charts.

Brands are part of our lives.

I hate seeing tv shows with a can of beer that says "BEER."

Particulary in an upper-middle class or upper class home where generic "BEER" would be highly unlikely.

With DVR product placement will grow and commercials will fade.I am ok with that as long as it is not too intrusive like the BS in 2 Broke Girls.

On the other hand ...

I saw it, too, but the brand was mentioned so quickly, I wasn't sure I heard correctly.

It is not the Insired by Marcus cooking show sponsored by Bluestar.

Hey, I'm not a big sitcom fan but 2 Broke Girls is one of the few that I watch - it's pretty funny and raunchy in my opinion - number 3 after The Big Bang Theory, and 2 1/2 Men. I also noticed the Blue Star and thought it was pretty cool.

Never watched that show(and had no plans of doing so), but wish I did watch it before reading this thread as the surprise is kinda ruined now. :)

I do not watch a lot of TV either although it is kind of ironic as I have been on TV and also had been approached to be co host of my own show. (Which I didn't get)

When I had my interior design and general contracting business I was on a national network a few times and my work appeared on two national networks, as well Canada's largest home decor magazine. I was then approached by the talent scout the network uses to co host my own show. Despite all of this I have to come clean to Dee: my nick is TYguy not TVguy as you usually refer to me as. I just didn't want to correct you as I thought it would come off rude, which would be opposite of your posts. You are always very polite, non confrontational and usually helpful too. :) :) BTW...I am enjoying my Bosch washer and dryer so far which your post helped me decide to purchase.
