Where is About in Office 2007?

Seems MS can't leave the simplest of things alone.

I wanted to see that SP1 was recorded in my updated version of Office 2007. I activated Word (2007) and looked for "Help" so that I could click on "about" and get the version of my copy of Word. I can't find "Help", thus "about".

Anyone know where it is, or how one now checks the version if it isn't in the long standing (why was it changed?) output of "about"?

Not using those products so I don't know, but in the link I'm giving you "Belarc" click it go to the web page and click "Download" This will create a profile of all the software on the pc and other items, you can print it out very nice program. Please see the link. Others will know how but the Belarc is nice th know about...

I looked around in Word and can't find "About"

Belarc Advisor will show this and if you click details, it'll take you to a MS page explaining the update.
I'm downloading SP1 now and it should be added to this list.

I downloaded SP1 from a MS link the other day but it wouldn't install (failed to initialize) so now I'm getting it from MS update.

The bottom line is it may never say Word or Office 2007 SP1, I dunno.

Perhaps this is a good time to make the choice between 2000 and 2007. Another point beyond bob14's suggestion: While in Excel check to see the "save file as" default by using Tools:Options:Transition "Save files as:". If you have previously opened and changed a 2000 file while using 2007, the file may have been automatically saved as 2007. While using 2007 you probably have a choice as to file type.

It includes Word, Powerpoint, Excel and something else I have never used, and forget what its call, it does not include Outlook. I just ordered MS Office Home Student for $124.99 free shipping form Amazon.com. Heck, and I just, with the help of friends on the web forums, managed to set Open Office as the default application for doc. ppt. and xls. I know my wife will be happy to have MS Office back on her machine, MS has really outdone itself (money mongers that they are) in making Office available for home use at a reasonable price, keeping in mind I can install it on both my and my wife's machine, plus another home machine, for the $125 price tag.

Interesting, did I overlook were to find "about" in Windows 2007? I'm sure Office SP1 (almost 200 Mbytes) was installed/loaded, or at least MS thinks it was. Must have been a lot of improvements (security?), but nothing to make 2007 more friendly to the end user (me) who has found the move from Word to Office '95 (I think that was my first Office load) to Word 2003 easy to follow, not so for 2007, everything is differenct.

The MS Update process has not mentioned XP SP3, but read Randy has it.

No I do not think 2007 has the "About" feature like the Browsers do. No MS update process will not mention XP SP3 yet it will not be avaiable till Jan I think, however advanced users can install it now and that's what I was asking Randy about basically to see what changes he may have noticed using it..

I see Zep made a reference to Belarc and I agree the application should tell you what you wish to know. Having said that, just last night I saw on the near top of the Belarc report page an alert advising me that my Microsoft security defintions were out-dated. The alert linked me to the Belarc website and allowed me to update to all Microsoft Security Bulletin releases as of 12-13-07. Perhaps you might need to do this also.

Honestly, I do not remember ever doing this before or reading about this activity.

I think zep is right, no "About in Office 2007.
Jerry, like you, I've looked everywhere for it with no joy.

XP SP3 RC1 (release candidate 1) was released by Microsoft the other day as a Public Download.
I can't find a MS page, but lots of links to the download Windows XP Service Pack 3 Build 3244 RC1 - Official Release google search
Figured if it was good enough to be released to the public, they must have confidence that it is stable.

So far so good, no problems with it at all, in fact it seems like this service pack brought a little more zip to xp.

Theres always Add/Remove if it doesn't work out.

Performance is possibly an unexpected bonus to installing SP3. Reports from testing SP3 RC1 using OfficeBench indicate that a Windows XP computer with SP3 installed performs approximately 10 percent faster than the same computer with only SP2 installedÂand also is noticeably faster than Windows Vista SP1.

You shouldn't have any problems.
I've installed it on 2 machines and am impressed.

What is the size of XP SP3?

If hundreds of megabytes, it would be nice if MS would officer a CD/DVD for some small shipping and handling charges.

Just thought id post, the About is still in Office 2007.

Within Word, click on File (or the nice round symbol in the top left) and select Word Options. Choose Resources in the left hand side, then About on the right side.

I have Version: 3244 from 4 days ago, can't keep up with them.

It may be best to wait for the official release to the general public, i.e., part of the normal MS Update process. Who knows? that could be Version 9999.

Ah but Jerry, am a glutton for punishment so I am planning on upgrading one computer to see how it all comes together.

I will not bother to slipstream till the final release of course :-)

Will I'm tempted, and looking I was happy to see MS offers a "stand alone" download which will, I assume, support the application of SP3 to more than one machine with the one down load, as suits the needs in my home. I wonder how MS validates the installed copy of XP in the "stand alone" mode.
