You can not run 2 antivirus programs at the same time if they are both running full time it will cause a conflict that is very well known and documented and will be told to you at any of the support forums you go to so you need to fully remove Norton since you now have AVG. go here and use app remove and the norton removal tool from the security garden link Antivirus Product Removal Tools Using AppRemover it is free spybot search and destroy was at one time very good but today there are some that are much preferred so I suggest replacing spybot and adaware with these free products, update them each time you use them and scan weekly with full scan. I asked the question early on if there is a limited user account set up for the teenagers, that is NUMBER ONE on the list of what to do no matter what else is done. I also think what you are doing in taking care of these young people is fabulous and thank God for people like you and their parents who are fighting for all of us, Thank you all. I also would ask in reference to the actual computer, does this computer belong to you or to them? This would make all the difference to me. I would not ever put a keylogger on my machine, now if it is theirs that will become their problem. A keylogger is malware plain and simple, you do not know what else a program like that may be installing on your computer and the way they install themselves to be hard to detect and remove makes it all the more reason NOT to trust them or put them on your pc willingly. How do you really know all the info it is capturing is not going out to someone else also? I do not find companies that make that type of product to be the most stand up trustworthy. I agree about the time factor, someone has to sit there and read all that info that the keylogger will spew out. And remember it will not just record their keystrokes it will record all of them, so who ever has the job of reading the info will be reading the info that every one that typed at that pc wrote, big huge can of worms just waiting to be opened from my view. I would not want anyone reading my stuff. Also if you have others over and they use that pc adult or child their info will be viewable, that can really quickly jump into a sticky situation, you would have to tell them before they used that pc that everything they type will be seen. I have visitors come here often and I let them use my computers, I have accounts set up just for that, limited user accounts, and I would never consider spying on what they typed or did, plus you would be seeing passwords too. There are so many better ways to work with this kind of situation and not use a keylogger which is an extreme breach of privacy on all parts. Again if they are using admin accounts or have access to the admin account and password you are giving them the key to the castle and putting any type of program on there is useless because they have the admin rights to disable it. And I totally agree that they have to be told it is going to be on the pc, none of us know the story behind this or the history but not telling them would be a huge risk of losing their trust and it could hurt them alot. Not a quick and easy decision to make.

Lynn if you are happy with McAfee then keep it, I in fact have McAfee on one of my windows computers because I too get it free with my Verizon fios, when I get tired of it or if something goes wacky with it I know I can always just start using one of the free ones like Avast, would not use the new AVG8. There have in the past been problems with McAfee, they have sent out some updates that caused problems on some computers, but they were pretty quick to fix them. I do not use their firewall I use an older version of zonealarm pro. Site advisor has nothing to do with your McAFee suite it is an add on for your browser, you download it from the site I provided in the other thread and simply select which browser you are using and use the download for that browser, Since you are currently using IE get the one that says for Ie, when you decide to get firefox then go and get the one that says for firefox it will then add it to firefox also. it is super simple to do basically one click. It is free for everyone. as to your husbands laptop that would be totally up to you or him. IF he wants to pay for trend micro it is a good program however I think there are free versions that can handle the job like the Avast free. I would probably do that instead of putting AOL on there if he does not need it, AOL is bad about digging into the innards of the pc and when not needed I don't advise putting it on. Now to your daughters pc are you sure you have the McAfee suite actually installed on that pc? I would try logging in with your name since it is under your subscription often times the main user has to do that to enable subscriptions. IF you can not get it to work then make sure you completely remove it from the pc before you install any other antivirus program that goes for any of the computers always completely remove the prior antivirus, you do not want more than one on a pc. McAfee has a detailed directions page on how to uninstall their products. this is the directions you may want to print and keep available. 1. Uninstall all McAfee programs through "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows "Control Panel". 2. Use the MCPR tool, see this article: How to remove supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe). This will remove all McAfee remnants from your computer. (you must have Windows Vista, XP or 2000 SP4 to use this tool) 3. Launch Windows Explorer and delete all McAfee files in "Program Files" but especially in "C:\Document and Settings\\Application Data" and "C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data". You have to set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View tab). Just delete the McAfee folders even if they are empty in all the "Application Data" folders. NEVER X OUT or even touch the screen with your cursor/mouse on a popup of this type. What you want to do is to left click the taskbar and bring up the Task Manager and end the process. This type of Rogue program is called Scareware. It entices you to purchase the program to remove malicious content that is fictitious. This is a complete scam as the scan results are all fake and many of the listed files are actually legitimate files that if removed could cause problems for your computer. Antivirus 8 will also attempt to protect itself by not allowing you to run various programs that may assist in removing it. When you attempt to run these types of programs, Antivirus8 will terminate it and then state that the file is infected. In conjunction to installing SpywareBlaster, I also recommend her to install WOT (Web of Trust). This will prevent access to bad sites as long as you heed the warnings to not enter them. Self discipline is the key to prevention! Please follow through with getting professional help before installing anything more. Even if you use MBAM in safe mode, there is still a registry key that will be needing attention! These programs are very aggressive and do leave traces behind.
