Asus Transformer

I went looking for an inexpensive netbook for travel and carting to coffee shops, and came across this. It seems like the perfect marriage between an android tablet and, with its keyboard, a netbook. Any thoughts on it before I take the plunge? Also, can I load Microsoft Word on such a tablet or would I need to use another word processing program (app?) I do a fair amount of word processing.

Here is a site that can provide you with more information about the word processing program that comes pre-loaded with the Transformer Asus...Polaris Office 3.

It is an awesome design and the specs on it are top notch, it will get the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update too. It is pricy, it is 10", and dock comes separate. Amazon has a lot of into about it.
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer

I have talked to a few people with it and they love it.

It is definitely one I would love to have.

NO you can not put that on Android the best is Lookout and it is free, and let me say how jealous I am that is one fine piece of technology you have there, would dearly love one. You can just go to the android market from your tablet just click on the icon that says market then do a search there for lookout security. Lookout that is what you are looking for. you can just click on the download then install button right there on your tablet and it will install it for you. Let me know if you need any help all of my tablets are Android and I have a LOT of apps I love on mine and can share which to get. For ebook reading I love aldiko which you can get from market, you can get kindle and nook apps from there too if you would like those. When in the android market just do a search for what you want or select the categories button to see the break down there.

Have you tried using firefox android browser? it allows you to use add ons just like the desktop firefox including the wonderful ad block plus so no more ads on the tablet. I have been using it and really like it plus it allows flash to play with flash player installed which is easy to do. I tried all the major browsers and keep coming back to firefox. Available in the play store for free of course.

There are lots of choices, you have the chance to look around. If this item is used mostly for web browsing and you don't make much use of Android apps, you may be happy with a chromebook PC. Input is with a keyboard rather than a touchscreen - a plus for some but not necessarily everyone. They're fast, light, inexpensive and easy to use. In the tablet world, nothing beats an iPad. My wife has one and loves it. I'm not an Apple fanboy at all but iPads are high quality products. Long battery life, long product life, great cameras (for video calls) and access to more apps than you'd ever want to use. No electronic product like a tablet can be expected to survive a drop to a hard floor (unless in a shock-proof case) but iPads are durable in normal use. I have some family members whose kids use an ipad that I think is over 6 years old. It's in a protective case and has had some bumps and grinds but it still works very well.

Well, I found a good price online for the Transformer (470.00 for tablet plus dock) and took the plunge! I'm hoping to "catch up" a bit on technology with this new toy. I've never used a tablet or android system before (heck I've never even texted or tweeted) and stood gaping like a cave man yesterday as the 17 year old gum cracking sales person at Best Buy whirled through its features. I sure hope it will be fairly intuitive to use. It is my Christmas present to myself :)

Thanks for the links!
