Best Anti-Virus for Android Tablet?

I'm a new tablet owner (Asus Transformer) and wondering what security system to load on it. I run Microsoft Security Essentials on my laptop. Can I put this on my tablet and, if so, how? Or what might be better to use? Thanks!

NO you can not put that on Android the best is Lookout and it is free, and let me say how jealous I am that is one fine piece of technology you have there, would dearly love one.
You can just go to the android market from your tablet just click on the icon that says market then do a search there for lookout security.

that is what you are looking for. you can just click on the download then install button right there on your tablet and it will install it for you.

Let me know if you need any help all of my tablets are Android and I have a LOT of apps I love on mine and can share which to get. For ebook reading I love aldiko which you can get from market, you can get kindle and nook apps from there too if you would like those.
When in the android market just do a search for what you want or select the categories button to see the break down there.

I am thrilled with my Transformer! Since I'm new to android technology I am amazed at what it can do! I have a lot to catch up on!

OP, I detect a bit of concern (or maybe even paranoia) about programs on your PC. The Android world is no haven of safety in that regard. An app is a program, it's different word for the same thing. There have been many outcries about some Droid apps that access and transmit back to the developers' home base information that's wholly irrelevant to the app's function. Your location (determined by the GPS function or cell tower location for phones) as an example, your browsing history or data from your address book are others. Don't think that sticking to apps from big name companies is any solace, because Google (the "owner" and developer of the Android system) is as guilty as anyone. The best protection is to be judicious about what you install, and delete what you find unncessary. Your words - remnants, tentacles- suggest a concern (whether for the PC or Droid worlds) that I'd suggest you just learn to live with these things and move on. They exist, they can't be avoided, and so long as you have a good anti-virus program on your PC, you can be reasonably confident that their presence will be of no real consequence. I know some will disagree, but I think having concern about things you can't really change is a waste of time.

Last year, Google's manager of the Android effort said the following: "Virus companies are playing on your fears to try to sell you BS protection software for Android, RIM, and, iOS," DiBona said on Google+. "They are charlatans and scammers. If you work for a company selling virus protection for Android, RIM or iOS, you should be ashamed of yourself." I don't know what the consensus view is today. It's one of those areas with divided opinions. The danger seems to be most prevalent with apps. As with PC use, if you stay with mainstream programs and go only to mainstream websites, you're unlikely to have any problems. I don't use security software on my Android phone and I don't worry about it. Maybe I should?

In the case of the ransomware if you have your backup drive or device connected to the computer then the backup gets infected also. That has been the case for many. I suggest that you disconnect from the computer or network your backup device when not actively doing a backup. It is not just porn sites these days that was true years ago, the hackers and malware writers have progressed much beyond that. It's never a good idea to think it can never happen to me. Zero day exploits happen all the time on all kinds of places and before our protection software has been able to add definitions to the program to protect us. It happens every day to people who do have knowledge and protection. Spend some time on the help sites and you quickly realize that it can and does happen to anyone. Including Apple products. And also but rarely some versions of Linux.

Android is a separate operating system from Windows, so there is no Window-based program you can install on it, just like you can't take Windows software and run it on an Apple computer. I agree with ravencajun about Lookout. I have it on my Galaxy Tab and my android smartphone and it seems to work well. And the free part is nice, too!
