That Trojan is becoming more common - especially on certain websites, and there will be others, so beware. They can even take photographs without your knowledge.

I wish the article would have said where to find the fix if using Android 2.3. My new HTC Inspire4G is that version. I don't get apps and never any other place than from HTC or the market. I pretty much have everything I need on mine now.

Yes. and Yes. Like Raven I only get my apps from the market. Of course, there were some on there that Google had to remove several weeks ago. Mine is the HTX Droid Incredible 2, and now that I'm finally learning more about it, I'm really liking it. I downloaded the entire manual to my computer in PDF format, so I can look up things when I'm not sure of something. One problem I have is no being able to sync with my computer. I downloaded the HTC Sync program, but I keep getting a notice that no device is connected. I'd like to put my music and some pictures on it, and I'd rather not pull the SD card out to transfer them directly to that. I checked, and mine seems to be running version 2.3.3.

I read that one called Antivirus Free was the best (forget where I read this), so that's the one I got at the Market. I also read a recommendation to get Advanced Task Killer to kill some of the apps that run all the time to save battery life. My phone is the HTC Incredible 2 which is a 3G phone. I won't be getting 4G in my area for a long while, so this seemed a good choice for me. My main problem is my "fat" fingers which are always accidentally touching the screen and opening or moving things I don't want to. I'm still struggling with learning some of this. I finally downloaded the manual in PDF format and keep the icon for it on my desktop. The manual is 300 pages long, so printing it is out of the question. Good luck with your new phone.

I had a Windows Mobile phone and liked the internet and email access. I didn't do much with maps. From what I understand, Android phones are designed to work better with social network stuff like Facebook, Myspace, etc. You would probably get better info from a dedicated smartphone forum. I have an LG something, not sure what it is, apparently the latest model, and I do not like it. The screen is ginormous, and it's got all the bells and whistles, but it's taken me so long to get used to it. I have found that the battery does not last as long as my old iPhone. However, it does tend to keep apps open in the backround, so that sucks out the battery. I also find that some settings change-for example, if I turn it off, it automatically goes to silent. I have trouble setting the volume-just lots of problems. But I think it's because I haven't spent the time to learn it. I had asked DS to help me, but he's not familiar with Android systems (all my kids are iPhoners). I had an iPhone 4, and when I was ready to upgrade, there was fantastic deal on this LG, so I went with it (paid $50 for it with all the accessories thru Costco-everywhere else was over $200 even with the upgrade). All my music is on iTunes, so I can't get it on the Android-but I've heard that there is some way you can do that-just not sure how. Some day I may learn all the features, but if I knew then what I know now, I'd have stayed with my iPhone.

mtv, back in the day, it was generally cheaper to buy your phone outright rather than to subsidize the phone. When you subsidized, you paid the $100 or $200 up front, but the rest of the cost of your phone was built into your phone plan/contract. When you get to the end of your contract, the you've paid off the phone. The trouble with how that use to work, is that when you pay off your phone, your plan doesn't go down, so you were still paying more for that phone cost for no benefit. You would religiously need to update at the end of your contract to not throw money away. But, now most contracts are on the phone, and not your plan. So when you pay off your phone cost, your monthly premiums reduce, also why you normally don't have to switch plans when to get a new phone subsidy anymore. Depending on that monthly cost, you're typically going to spend the same paying up front via monthly payments. The difference maker is going to be device sales, and reduce priced phones (like older phones, or refurbished).

grandms you should be able to use the cable that plugs into your phone and is a regular usb on the other end, connect it to your pc, then on your phone you may have to select that you want to use it to transfer not charge and you can move all your stuff over that way. Look in your manual mine tells just how to do that.

You can also email it to yourself and download it from your email on your phone to the phone itself. If you do not have Astro file manager you might want to get that to help you keep your stuff organized. Just be sure you are using your wifi to do that since it would use up a lot of your data allotment.

When in doubt, read the manual!! Yes, I have all my music now without using the HTC Sync program. It was a 150MB download! Anyhow, I printed out the part of the manual dealing with photos, videos, and music, and found out how easy it is to do what I needed. Next step is to post pictures from my phone to Facebook. I have a cute one of our dog to post.

Putting an image on Facebook is pretty easy. I have the Facebook app installed but it's as easy as opening the picture in Gallery, tapping the menu button, choosing share, and then Facebook.

I would highly recommend that people download apps only from trusted sources -- the Android Marketplace, Amazon, or directly from a trusted vendor. Still, some caution needs to be used as Android apps are not nearly as well policed as iPhone apps.

I should mention that Amazon gives a free app away every day. I've gotten a couple of good ones that I wouldn't have paid for otherwise.
