GPS system for tree mapping
Comments (12)This is slightly different from what you are looking at, but is some ways appropriate. Using Google Earth you should be able to locate the position of the tree you planted with or with out GPS. Find the general area where the tree was planted and zoom into the area and find the nearly exact the location where you planted the tree. You can increase the accuracy of the position by measuring from two hard object that can be seen in Google Earth to the tree, then transfer those measurements to the Google Earth using the measuring function in Google earth. You can measure things in Google earth to the nearest foot.. Once you locate the trees you planted in Google Earth place a Placemark at the site of each tree. In the Placemark description you can place all of the statistics about the tree. While I have never seen, you can back up all of this information, and transfer it to other computers with Google Earth. These two files contain that information myplaces.backup.kml and myplaces.kml Copy them to the folder you want to use as a back up or copy them in the same Google directory on the other computer. If you install Google Earth you will be over writing the ones created on installation. In Window 8.1 they are located in C:\Users\account \AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth Account is the name of the user account. If you have an earlier version of Windows they are in the Application data. Or you can search for them use the above file name. I transferred the information to my Windows 8.1 computer from and Windows XP computer using this technique. I have used this exact procedure to locate ancestors graves to archive the location. I hope this proves to be useful. This post was edited by knuttle on Mon, Nov 18, 13 at 13:02...See MorePC Optimizer Pro
Comments (27)To borrow (and probably mangle) snidely's analogy: using a seperate tool for every job is like driving a model A. You have to shift the gears, adjust the spark, back up the steepest hills. (No fuel pump) A more modern car has cruise control, automatic transmission, heated seats, GPS that'll pick your route, maybe even adjust based on traffic. You feel a little less in control, but you don't have to think about all that. I personally like AVG Free antivirus, ZoneAlarm firewall, and Malwarebytes anti-malware. But sometimes I have to tinker a bit to make 'em play nice together. AVG now wants to be the firewall too. ZoneAlarm offers an antivirus. If you want to just be secure, without spending all your time at it, they should be pretty good all in one tools. Also, don't be afraid to download stuff, if you're willing to take responsibility for your security. If you aren't familiar with a program, google it. What experiences have others had? If possible, download from the author's site. You'll get the latest version, with less chance of it having been tampered with. If you must download elsewhere, find trustworthy sources and use them if possible. My favorite is majorgeeks.com. Above all else, after the download is complete, VIRUS SCAN BEFORE OPENING! Such practices have always kept me virus free. Of course downloading nothing is even safer....See Morea combined smartphone/GPS unit question
Comments (22)Clarification/Correction to my previous post... I happened to be at Costco today and I visited the cell phone kiosk to ask some questions. Here is what I found out: 1. Within the "trial period" you can return any phone and get a different one from the same carrier. The length of this trial period varies depending on the carrier, but seems to be in the range of 14-30 days. 2. Within the first 90 days, you can return any phone (by mail) that has a problem/defect and get a replacement or refund from Costco. (Getting a refund from Costco for the phone does not get you out of your contract with the carrier.) 3. If you want a different phone after the trial period is over, it would be up to the carrier whether to agree to that...no guarantees. 4. All phones come with the standard 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Conclusion: 1) In terms of warranty/exchange, Costco offers about what a stand alone cell phone store does, aside from the 90 day refund/exchange through Costco, and 2) Costco seems to offer better deals for your money....See MoreCredit Card Stolen En Route
Comments (48)Thanks, sushipup. I have a neighbor who is keen on this stuff. I have or used to have lots of: Liberty dimes -- no idea where they are. Life's calamities and so on Buffalo nickels -- in the 1960s I kept them with a boyfriend who --- well, my bad. Lost to me now. He was a really fine fellow. Wheat pennies, gray or lead (Pb) pennies Silver dollars - just two, one marred. I wish the gov would mint a few more. It will probably take me five hour or more to look through the coins. I may find a liberty dime or 6 wheat pennies. If I found and sold them, I bet I'd be lucky to net a dollar (paper(. Isnt it amazing what we accumulate and how quickly just three decades or more zip past? Would many of us to do things differently or all over again in a completely different way? I would if I had the benefit of hindsight and maturity at a very young age sure why not? (I am voice typing so excuse the goofs). Darkening skies and it's only a little after 1 PM. I am in the Northeast and this unstable tropical weather because of the aberrant jetstream is very hard to cope with after two months. I need to have a few yard sales, clean things out, part with the items, paint the house, do yardwork, go to a few flea markets, visit friends, but in this every day soggy tropical unstable weather with a chance of lightning I am not getting a lot done. How about you guys? Does this weather seems just too crazy and annoying? I saw today that they are having floods in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. So sad that people are having their lives in their homes in jeopardy. And in California, it is just heartache to see people so distraught and losing their homes and livelihoods. It is like a stab to my heart....See More- 8 years ago
