Wolf Rangetop 36' price range

I have come to the realization (that everyone else already knew) that Wolf does not allow any kind of pricing online. Call me chicken but I would like to have a ballpark figure before talking to the local dealer. I actually have no idea how much a 36" Wolf range top or BlueStar is going for. If the rangetop by itself is over $4k I will prob look for something else. I would ideally like an open burner range like a Wolf or BlueStar but I really don't know what I'm dealing with in terms of price. I'm in Northern, NY / Vermont region. If anyone has an idea that would be helpful.

The Wolf rangetop, assuming you are talking about the open burner, 6-burner natural gas model (i.e. no griddle, no charbroiler, no french top) which is #RT366, is about $3000. For more precise quotes, simply call any of the several reputable websites. Good ones to call are abt.com, universal-akb.com, Ajmadison.com. They will all quote you prices that are very close, because Subzero/Wolf is very stringent about UMRP. Because of the UMRP, none of the retailers can really compete on price. The way your retailer or others can compete is to offer side items like free delivery and installation, extension of the warranty, throw in a free disposal, or give a deeper discount on other non-Subzero/Wolf appliances you may also be buying. Buying from an internet retailer in another state will save you the sales tax, which can be substantial--of course, you may not want to buy from a retailer you cannot see and get to know. Especially if your local retailer can offer some of the things I've just mentioned.

Price out comparables you can find online and that'll give you a ball park. Bluestar, Viking, DCS, Capital, etc. prices are all readily available. No reason to think Wolf's prices will blow your drawers off if you're ok with these. Also of note, I find it EASIER to get a price on fixed price items like Wolf over the phone than other brands that are open to the "free market."

Or I just haven't used that particular combination so I haven't had the problem yet. We don't use that oven very much (roasting meat or poultry) because we have an electric wall oven. I feel guilty using so much energy to heat up that enormous oven to cook something that only fills a fraction of the cavernous size, so I tend to "save" it for turkey or two chickens at a time. Thinking about it, roasting usually takes a long time, and we probably wouldn't use the burners for side dishes until the end of the cooking cycle, when the oven temp was lower and definitely after pre-heating, so we might have to "test" this on our range.

I don't think you'd be unhappy with either. I recently bought a Wolf range and I'm happy with it, but I think burners with a star pattern would heat more evenly in the center of cookware. Blue Star and American open burners are probably better star shaped burners, but Thermador's may be better than the large round Wolf burners. Again, I think you'll be happy with either. I might check on local service history with both. Probably won't need it, but some manufactures have better or worse service in some areas.

In February we were making a decision about the AG ranges and were looking at American, Bluestar and Wolf. We did tons of research and looked and looked. At that time I was also thinking I wanted a color range rather than stainless, so that narrowed it down to Bluestar and American. We decided the American was a better value than the Bluestar and were ready to order until we did a final measurement and discovered that the extra depth of the Performer would not work in our particular configuration because a drawer on an adjacent wall wouldn't open. So, much as we would have liked it, that eliminated that possibility. Then, we found an AG Wolf floor model on clearance (one of the old models with the open burner) and bought that. I like it, but personally I wouldn't want the burners on the new model Wolf. And, there have been a couple times (maybe only 3 or 4) when I thought to myself I would have liked to have one of the more powerful burners from the Performer. In your shoes, I'd save the money and get the Performer. This doesn't mean I don't like the Wolf; it just means that I don't think it is worth the extra money now, especially considering the fact it has sealed burners.

Thank you all for the additional information. The main problem I'm having is I have to decide ASAP since the cabinetmaker will not start until I nail this down - he's supposed to start Monday and we're already 8 days behind schedule. The original plan was the Viking+Electrolux, and wiring has been done already. My original original plan was a cooktop + double ovens, but that didn't work out since there was no other place for the MW. So it was suggested to put the second oven under the cooktop. I convinced myself this was better in case either broke, I could replace each easier/cheaper - this may not be true. A couple days ago I thought, why not a Wolf range (since I was revisiting the whole thing) --- but with them being so expensive, and having to redo electrical --- I thought maybe it's easier just to go with the original plan. I'm glad you sent the info on the Bertazzoni since it looks like that cooktop would actually work with my oven -- I was worried I'd be limited since the Wolf cooktop plus some others will NOT work above the Electrolux oven. So I do have some options there if I need to replace.... Thanks again!

Wolf and SZ strictly control the pricing of their units, and you'll find that it will be almost identical to the dollar when you compare retailers in your area. Managers are not allowed to sell across sales districts or compete across state lines via online sales. For example, when we were shopping several years ago, I could have bought a SZ fridge for about $1000 less in Chicago than in Seattle where I live. However, I would have had to drive to Chicago, load up the unit, and drive it all the way back to Seattle.

Juliet3 is correct...where you can save is through side discounts on peripheral services and other brands bought in a package with your Wolf/SZ. We only wanted the Wolf 4 burner/griddle rangetop, and we paired it with at least 3 other manufacturers (LG, Asko, and FP) for the rest of the appliances. I shopped that entire package around to 4 different dealers and the one that gave me the lowest total price with the best services got the sale.

Where they could discount (LG and Asko) they did, plus the winning store threw in free delivery and no interest financing.

For what it's worth, it's been 3 years since the renovation (time flies!), and out of all the appliances, the Wolf rangetop/hood and Asko DW have held up the best, with no problems. The FP double ovens were problematic at first, but they have great customer service. And the LG fridge was a disaster....we're now saving up to get a new fridge.

Customer service with Wolf has been exemplary. The only issues were an igniter that needed repair after installation, and the gas/oxygen levels needed adjusting. They sent out a service tech free of charge, and this was after we kept the unit in the garage for over a year while the renovation went on, so the "warranty" was technically over. They couldn't have been nicer.

You'll spend a bit more for the rangetop, but you'll be very happy with it. The griddle is particularly fantastic, with even and precise heat.

And make sure you get the best hood you can afford...that rangetop can throw off a lot of steam and grease when cooking. I like the Wolf pro hood...it's noisy, but effective, and very easy to clean.
