Ccleaner is a great and safe program. however the drawback is the option to analyse what it might delete before proceeding. No doubt this is what you did as a nervous precaution. You will find great peace of mind if you simply click to run the cleaner without using the Analyse feature first. Wait for another poster or three to confirm what I have written to satisfy your comfort level.

If you subscribe to various forums and stay logged in you may wish to protect those cookies. To do so open Ccleaner, click Options on the left side then click the Cookies tab. All your cookies will be listed down the left side, look down through and move any you wished saved over to the right side and you will be set to go. This is purely optional.

As far as CC, use it freely with the default settings. Unless you are experienced leave the Advanced Settings alone. Also, leave the Registry Tool alone unless you are experienced.

Admittedly there are problems with the stored threads here at the forum, but you might want to do a search on the home page of the forum down by the birthday using the keyword "slow" (sans quotes).

I have used CC for years and have never had a problem with it deleting what it finds.

I have used CCleaner for years-both the cleaner and the Registry tool. Neither has caused me any trouble. I do backup the registry each time. To me it's just good housekeeping. I'm not convinced my computer is faster because of it. If you think your computer is slow, let us know if you think it is faster after using CCleaner.

Thanks for your prompt replies. At this point in time, I really have no idea what the default setting are?? I made sure that I unchecked all the Advanced Settings and did not do anything to the Registry. I have not done a run yet.

The default settings are the ones that the application comes with. If you haven't used it in some time, it will probably tell you there is a newer version. Download and install the latest version and use it without fear.

Like azinoh I have used both the clener and registry tool with no problem, always backing up the registry. This is just one step in my routing maintenance before I defrag.

For normal use of CCleaner, the default checkmark-settings are okay, except for the first one; Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older then 48 hours.
I suggest to remove the checkmark for this option, so that the Windows Temporary folders are cleaned thoroughly!

OK Guys, I did an update and ran the Cleaner but did not do the Registry. Everything seems A-OK for now. Thanks for all of your help and encouragement.

If the time comes that you wish to venture into the Registry Tool, as Grandms reports it has a backup so be sure to use it. Be just as sure that before you do you are aware of how to restore removed entry(ies).
