well first of all how exactly did she "remove" IE8? you can not actually remove IE from windows, you remove IE8 from add remove programs it then rolls the pc back to the earlier version of IE that was built in. Now if she had IE7 orIE8 on the pc then got service pack 3 for xp you can not go back. It was well documented in the directions for service pack 3. You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8 after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3 What service pack is she on with her xp on that pc? I think before anything can be done she would have to explain exactly what her "removal" process was and what did she actually remove? Has she tried doing a system restore to the point prior to making any of those changes? that would be number one on the list to try. Second would be installing IE8 again, these things may need to be done in safe mode with networking. I would also highly recommend running malwarebytes on it before going much farther because many of these errors are caused by an infection. Lynn, Are you using 'Windows XP', 'Vista', or some other operating system? You mentioned 'Superantispyware' removing "several spywares". Have you also run a full scan with your 'anti-virus' program? If not, update and run a full scan. Something else I overlooked when I read your initial post, I see you're using AOL 9.1. I'm still using AOL 9.0 SE, so there may be some changes to the way things are done in 9.1 as far as repairing the software. I'm not even sure they have the same features in 9.1 so let's forget about 'rebuilding the AOL adapter' for now. Someone else using that version of AOL will have to jump in here. Regarding running Ccleaner, just click on the link DA has provided. Now look at the capital C with the paint brush across it. You should have that same icon on your desktop if you did a straight install. Close the link now. If you have the icon on your desktop double click on it and a new window appears. Look in the bottom right corner and click where it says 'Run Cleaner'. There is nothing else to do until it finishes then you just close the program. You may also have an icon on the Quicklaunch bar near the Start button if you have the Quicklaunch bar enabled. When you run Ccleaner you will lose all your cookies as the program is designed to do. However if you remain logged in at sites like this one that can be annoying. You can stop that easily. Here's how. Open Ccleaner Click Options on the left side Click the Cookies box Now you have a list of Cookies to delete.
