Lycos mail unbearably slow starting up

Both this morning and yesterday, it took so long that I gave up in disgust and opened a new tab for something else. Finally--like maybe 5~10 minutes later--it did open. I suspect that the culprit is something called d.tradex.openx.com, the URL displayed in the taskbar while Lycos is hung up on opening, but when it finally opens, the URL at the top is the usual mail.lycos.com. Googling produced the information that d.tradex.openx.com has something to do with displaying ads on a Web page.

Is this something new to Lycos (which is always slow to delete messages anyway, but THIS is something new and really intolerable)? I have not installed any adblocking add-ons in my FireFox browser, but could it be that FF is doing something that causes d.tradex.openx to take so long? This is the last straw. If it can't be remedied simply, then it's bye-bye Lycos for me, even though I use it for messages from a lot of forums.
