Oldie, love, loved, LOVED your little Dove! I would like to make some, maybe use the heavy paper for the wings and tail, and use spray glitter or glue and colored glitter.

Now that is adorable! Thanks for posting that link, Oddie. Patty cakes, I am like you and started wondering what other colors would look good. I am thinking about doing it white and putting something "Valentiney" in its beak? That way I don't have to wait until Christmas!

Pam, It's true that some of yours, mine, and all of our bulbs may not exhibit symptoms especially if they are kept in optimum cercomstances,i.e., cool roots with good drainage, the proper amount of dappled sun for most of the day, or full sun at the right times of the day so as not to burn or stress the bulb and of course the proper amount of nutrients and moisture. But, most all bulbs at some time or another find themselves under stress. I have about 15 virused bulbs from a co-op from 2 years ago that when the leaves first emerged they were clear and green. A month or so on my too hot deck in full sun brought the virus symptoms on the leaves. They have been segregated and and this year when the new leaves emerged once again they are clear and green with no signs of virus. Looking at them currently, no one would believe they are affected. Now, I have planted these bulbs in 2 whiskey barrels at the far end of my yard and I wouldn't be at all surprised if this year with their roots cool and able to stretch all the way out into the moist fertilized soil that they never exhibit any signs of virus.. I also have a virused Estrella that I've had for 4 or more years now that every year sends up a clean first flush of leaves and blooms with 2 stalks with 4 to 6 flowers each time. Later in the summer it puts up a second flush of leaves and these show signs of virus. But once again, it blooms with 2 stalks with the appropriate number of flowers. This only goes to show that certain bulbs can live with this disease and aside from streaks in the leaves goes on it's merry way...my guess is that a NBF larvae will kill this bulb before the virus ever does. If one has a small collection.. 10 to 15 bulbs it may be possible to keep the virus at bay but if one, like most of the rest of us on this forum, keep adding to our collection from here and there and everywhere (which most of us do) we will all end up with virused bulbs and yes, you may never know it until it's way too late. It doesn't bode good for the future and we may have to just learn to live with it. They say that papilio is virus free, someone on this forum had some tested that were planted in the ground among other virused bulbs and the tests came back clean for their papilios..Most of the experts also state that papilio does not contract virus..but could it be a carrier? As I've stated many times on this forum I've lost probably up to 25 healthy bulbs to the Narcissis Bulb Fly over the past 2+ years..and last year I though I had it all figured out that by using a granular systemic containing imidacloprid I'd fix em..I lost as many last year as the year before....maybe more! It does seem to have potential...if you can get past all the Liberace decorating to actually *see* the characteristics of the structure. I had to get up and take a Dramamine in order to look at the kitchen shots, especially the one with the glass table and floral arrangements! Hard to believe people actually live like that-???? Shades and Andrea.... The B.B's (slingshot balls) are a little bigger than regular bb's and are a major pain to glue on. I always regret doing it after I start! Jennie... The little round mirrors I found at hobby lobby. Wish they came as small as Chickee has been gtinding them. I'm sure she does more than anyone!haha Slow... This is a lone teapot. No little pieces for this one. I do have a whole other silver set to do though. Maybe in a few months. Hazie

I would classify myself as an updated traditionalist. I enjoy searching and collecting special things over time as I can afford them. I appreciate and enjoy my home, friends and family. I donÂt live near my family so it is special when we can be together. I have had my ups and downs in this life as all of us have. I came here to share ideas with like minded, talented people. The photo of my home is a true reflection of my nature which is why I let it speak for myself. I find it more interesting to listen then to speak, because I tend to learn more. I sew, cook, loom weave, paint (mostly my house) and I am working on developing a decent tennis serve!

Well, i have the light bulb painted white!! Started making something last year & forgot what it was. I'll get some white felt out & see what I can do in the morning after I get my chili made!! supposed to rain tomorrow, nice indoor craft!!Loved her tutorial & thought processes. I like the bird better with the pompom eyes also! Jan

I knew you all would love this project,I havent gotton as far as finding a bulb somewhere in my craft room, but have a idea of useing a styrfoam ball for the head, stiff paper for the wings, all painted white then covered with diamond dust,black beads for eyes and maybe use clay or salt dough for beak, sunnyca you will have to post photos when done, gosh you are quick.
love the idea for valentines use, could use on a table at a wedding, or hung on a wreath.
Like the crafter in this blog I like makeing something beautifull from nothing, did you check out the other project?

I cut out pattern for wings & tail using her mat with the 1 in. marking on it to get the right size. The tail is 3 1/2 in long way & wide part at top is 2 7/8 in. part that goes on bulb is 1 7/8 in wide. Each wing is 4 3/8 in long & 1 5/8 in. wide. So all you have to do is shape it like she did.LOL I think A red bird would be perfect for Valentine's day also so I have to paint that bulb. The feet should be about 1 5/8 in. long. I'm using pink for white bird & red for red bird. Won't look like Cardinal(my favorite bird) but think it will be cute. Haven't decided on eyes for white 1 but thinking I'll just try several things, beads,pompoms or? WIP Jan

A Blue Bird and a Red Cardinal would be sooo cute too. for the cardinal you'd have to add a top notch on his head.

I've never had good luck painting on glass and having it stay on.

What kind of paint do you use?

Patti, use Folk Art Enamels, comes in same size as other paints(2oz.) Also wipe the light bulb with rubbing alcohol & don't touch glass part while painting. Oil from your fingers causes paint "not to stick" Then let dry a couple of days. paint the metal part after the glass part is dry . I'd wipe it with alcohol also & let dry for couple of minutes before painting.
