Not sure, jane have you rebooted to make sure it does not run there are some problems where it will run on a reboot...

There may have been a power outage and when it came back on it started the checkdisk automativcally to make sure there were no errors.

Thanks for responding. I don't know what happened but all was well after a reboot. I had to let it finish though. I checked event viewer and didn't see anything wrong. Really scared the heck out of me. A grand reminder to always back-up. I always do but not every letter or document which leads me to ask - can I copy a folder? All my important letter/docs are in folders. I use a flash and wonder if I can copy an entire folder?

bpgreen is probably right that makes sense, yes you should be able to if the flash has enough space to hold all the contents of the folder try it.

Jane regarding backing up your documents. I assume they are all sub folders of a master folder? If so why not use your program that connects the home and office. Then either export the master folder to home before leaving the office or import from the office once you are home. You will be asked if you wish to overwrite the existing folder of that name, answer yes and continue. No flash drive to misplace or go wrong on you.

If you go the flash drive route I would suggest you use 2 flash drives and alternate them so at any given time you can never lose more than one day of data.

Thanks as always, Owbist. How would I do that? The program I use to access my office computer is 'GO To My PC.' When I connect to the office machine, I am on that machine. I use my home computer, sign into their server and my office machine appears. I don't think there is any way to export. Possibly, but I wouldn't know where to begin. That would make life too easy.

Well I assumed that as I can upload files from my computer to the remote PC I have accessed with Teamviewer I thought you would be able to do the same. However I have just been searching about and GotomyPC seems very vague on specifics in all their advertising links.

I haven't used GoToMyPc but assume you can do most anything as if you were there. If so, can you plug a flash drive into the office computer so that you can do a backup there for the files/folders that you think are at risk? There would be no exporting, just a local backup at the office.

I back-up on a flash every night. Trouble is I don't back up everything as there is too much. If I could back-up My Documents that would be great, but I don't think that is possible. I type and scan many documents/records (medical work) and I can't even remember what I did when the day is over. I back up my patient records (insurance) every night but there are many things which should be included.

Looking for an easy way.

OK I'll go out on a limb again LOL.

As this is a business you could buy a powered external drive and write the whole thing off in the year of purchase. Then copy your My Documents folder to the external drive as soon as you walk in the office door each morning. (This is preference to doing it before you leave each night which might prove harder on busy days) Then by the time you have hung your coat and got the coffee pot perking it would be done.

That's how I do my Real Estate files I copy the whole My documents folder to to the external drive love it, then when I visit my sister I take the drive with me, it's like I never left home I can work there and have the files I need...Plus the fact there backed up on the external drive should something go wrong with the hard drive or computer..
