I think I am giving up for today. I have spent hours reading the links, and previous posts that I found in the search for OOo, supposedly installed Works Converter, which I can't find on here, just the installer, but when I open the installer it says it's already installed and all I can do is remove or repair the installation. Guess the only other thing I can do is go back to the old computer and try to convert the files there, then recopy them to this computer, but I'm done for today. Marie, thanks, but that only takes care of the one file, not all my patterns and such that have been typed in, or my trip journals, ect. Thanks for trying to help me. Tami

We asked do you have any version of Microsoft office on that computer now??? you can also try downloading open office from here OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 click where it says download now a new page opens and a pop up box with the actual download will come up for you to save to your pc. but I think maybe the easiest way for you might be to just use an online conversion tool like this no need to install any programs just do it online DOCX Convert Office 2007 or this Zamzar.com - Free online file conversion zamzar is my fave. or you can now use Google docs to open them Google Docs

Dee, I sure can understand your quest for improvement. I recently did an enlargement of a WWII photograph for a friend. It was of her recently departed father while he was in China just after the war. I'm not a true picture user just a tinkerer, but for a friend you do what you can. I took it from wallet size to 5x7. I couldn't go any larger as the quality receded. Even at 5x7 there was some "noise" and 'dust" I just couldn't remove. She was ecstatic with it though, and to me that was all that counts. Owbist is totally correct about cloning the original for working on. Myself, I have created a Stand By folder for anything that is being worked on or moved about the HD. DA

Adding to DA's comment -- I too found the Arcsoft site which used/uses .phb files that may be album files. Here's a quote from Arcsoft: PHB files are proprietary album files used by some of our programs, namely PhotoBase. Albums do not store your images. They serve as links to files stored on your computer or removable drive. If you delete the original file, the thumbnail in the album basically becomes a dead link. For example, if you have files on a floppy disk and create an album, you'll always need to have that floppy in the drive whenever you want to view the full images. Likewise, if you have a digital camera that is read as a removable drive, you would need to have it connected if you create the album directly from the camera. The best thing to do is copy all of your images into a folder on your computer, *then* create the album referencing those files. Albums are useful because they let you preview and organize files on your system in a convenient fashion. It is also from albums that slide shows are made with some of our programs." They still offer ($) software that may be able to translate your pics to jpeg or they have some free help. Some of their software can be downloaded for trials which might enable copying to jpeg.
