Irfaview and Picasa both have editing tools. However, as user friendly and good as they are they are not miracle workers.

You could try paint.net this is NOT the paint program that comes with all computers, it is far more powerful. Or there is Photofltre.

Both of these are full featured programs and as such have a steeper learning curve.

Always remember that when you edit a photo you need to create a copy to play with so the original never gets touched. I use a simple method, if my photo has a name like photo.jpg then I add 01 before the .jpg and increase the number if I am sort of happy but need another try or 2. If the photo ends with a number then I add a letter. With both of these the copies are always with the original when you look for them in windows Explorer or open them in a photo editing program.

I sure can understand your quest for improvement. I recently did an enlargement of a WWII photograph for a friend. It was of her recently departed father while he was in China just after the war. I'm not a true picture user just a tinkerer, but for a friend you do what you can.

I took it from wallet size to 5x7. I couldn't go any larger as the quality receded. Even at 5x7 there was some "noise" and 'dust" I just couldn't remove. She was ecstatic with it though, and to me that was all that counts.

Owbist is totally correct about cloning the original for working on. Myself, I have created a Stand By folder for anything that is being worked on or moved about the HD.

My friend just purchased a new phone, she sent me a video, I was unable to open it. It was a .MOV file. She said I would have to download NERO Smart Start Essentials to see it. Is there any other way around installing another program to see her videos?

The .mov format is an Apple Quicktime Movie. If you already have Irfanview with its plug-in or Quicktime itself on your computer system you should be able to download the video to the system and play it.

you can use zamzar online converter to convert it to another format you can view on your pc with out adding any programs

also with out having to add anything to your pc you can use an online editor these are 2 I really like. I personally do not like to load the pc down with tons of programs that I rarely use especially when there are great options on line for free.
