I know to use the Search, but do not know exactly what I am asking, so I don't know how to find an answer.

We have a new computer, and I want to post pictures on Picture Trail, and in the Rose Forums.

I have choices. The machine is HP so I can use their photo program that does not seem to want to upgrade right now.

I am using Windows pictures that is on my "C" drive. We have Vista, and I think it is Windows 7. We also have the Canon Camera program, and a Corel program.

All I want to do is reduce my pictures to 640X480 to post. Do you have any suggestions of what to do? The upgrades on the computer are failing, and are not loading the HP photos -- maybe because I am using Windows.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me. (I already know I could read many manuals, and look up things online.)

If you are taking photos specifically to show on Rose forums then why not set the camera to take 640 x 480 pictures? Remember to set it back to the higher quality after of course.

However if you want the photos for other uses too then you can easily reduce them on your computer AFTER you have renamed them so the original is not lost to you. For example if you photo is called img_036.jpg you can add an 'a' making it img_036a.jpg, that way they are still together when you view the files in Windows Explorer.

Forget the Canon software, I never take my camera software out of the packages as it usually so much bloatware. But that of course is a personal decision you must make.

What Corel program is it Sammy? You should be able to open your chosen photo in Corel, click Image, click Resample and set the size to what you want. By default it retains the aspect ratio so if you choose 640 for the width it will set the height to 480 immediately for you .

An easy way to make a picture with less KB is to mail it
to yourself. Right click it and send to Mail Recipient.
Mark for Make all my pictures smaller - OK
A 1.5 MB was changed to 44.8 KB
Maybe your after something else I'm not much on
understanding about photos.

Just recently downloaded this powertoy from windows. I really like it. Very simple and doesn't clutter up my computer. It's a neat tool to have on hand for lots of different applications. Not familiar with Photoscape, but a key ingredient of Picasa is the ability to mix photo printing so as to make better use of ink and paper with less waste. I also like the collage feature for creating desktop backgrounds of the grandchildren. I even printed one out for my desk at work. I use Irfanview for its easy resizing, properties not physical, of a photo. Being on an antique DUN that's important. DA

Microsoft drops Digital Image Suite I not sure exactly what you are trying to do. I'm thinking you could find your pictures in Kodak EasyShare, click Edit\Select All, right click a photo\copy, then go find My Documents\My Pictures and paste them. At least you would know the photos are in My Photos. You don't need EasyShare to transfer photos from camera to computer. Most advise against installing software that comes with a camera. Once you get all the photos removed from Kodak EasyShare, you can go to the control panel and remove the program. PhotoBucket is just an online place to store photos. Don't know what the zig-zag is, and have no idea about a window that says to restore them or whatever or the little picture of a "lost" one. Anyway, I think you're going to need to learn how to transfer photos from camera to computer (if this is what you're trying to do) without using third party software, because they'll save them in hard to find places.

I use Irfanview alot with quite a few added plugins, some free (Xero Graphics, Filter Forge,Virtual Photograher by Optik Verve)some paid for (such as TopazLabs plugins, some compatible PS plugins) something a little beyond basic editing...The only thing I don't like about it is it doesn't keep your EXIF data when you save RAW to JPG's. As mentioned above-Photoscape is a nice Free little program, it recognizes raw files but when you bring them up in photoscape they are small...Most of the time I shoot jpg, but have been doing alot of raw's lately... Paint.net is another free-doesn't recognize raw files-I use that to clone out any dust from the sensor if it shows up or some small thing...I'm not that great otherwise for heavy duty into editing-like layers, cuts, so on...it does have that capability... I do have Capture NX that came with the Nikon I bought a few years ago...If the pics are shot in raw and I want to save the exif-I'll open with Irfanview as my viewer-then choose open with NX. that saves the exif when saved...I don't care for the viewer of NX-seems cumbersome for me-thats why I like Irfanview as my viewer... I know this an older post-When I started photography it took me awhile to understand everything on what to get or to buy..So I hope this was helpful. Juanita

I have photoshop elements 4.0 and corel paintshop pro x on my computer but find it easier and quicker to use the freeware Irfanview to resize my photos. It is free for home use. There are many tutorials on the web - just google irfanview tutorial.

If you R click on the photo, a menu comes up. One choice is 'resize.' Click on that and a box appears saying: 'make picture smaller.' It gives you a choice of small, medium, large. I click small and it makes a copy and calls it 'small.jpg.' That's what I use to upload. I have no idea what size it is, but it works. I use XP and don't know if that works with Vista.
It's so easy and fast.

I take a lot of photos to post on the rose and perennial forums. I downloaded a free and easy program called Serif PhotoPlus. It allows you to edit your pictures (crop, adjust contrast, darken or lighten, hue and saturation, etc) Playing around with these will make your good photos great. Anyway you can adjust the size of the photo by simply entering a new pixel width (keep the maintain ratio box checked). Then export and save the file and upload to photo trail or photobucket.
