Not booting up properly

Lately has been coming more frequently. I boot up, starts loading, and then a black screen. I shut down, start over, and usually this time will finally get to the desktop icons.

When it doesn't load, I get the windows starting normally screen, but is so annoying to have to watch for this each and every time I boot up.

I use IEXP, OE, and have a year old Acer monitor.

Is this something I have done, something I will have to live with, something I can fix, or...

Would be most appreciative of some insight into this problem, I am sure I have plenty of RAM yet, tho can't remember where to find it, should start writing this stuff down, I don't go a lot of these places often enuf.

This is more likely a software issue than anything to do with hardware.
Does the loading stop at the same spot each time?
How long after the black screen do you wait before you shut down and re-start? Leave it a little longer next time to see if it cures itself as it seems like a corrupt file.
Watch the flashing of the activity light on the front of your tower, does it stop about the same time as the black screen?

Next time this happens and you reboot take a look here once it is running
click Start
click Control panel
click Administrative tools
click Event viewer

Do not get frightened off by all the gibberish you see while doing the next bit Shaddy. Just quietly review it for clues so we can help you get this sorted out.

Now we have a new window with 2 sides, on the left side click on System.
Now look on the right side for red error messages, scrolling down if needed.
Double click on any of these to see what it says. You may not understand much of it but look for clues and any error message and error number. There is also a link underlined and in blue text, you can click on that the bring up a help page.

When you have finished there go back to the left side of the Event viewer window and click on Application and see what there is there regarding errors or warnings.

Shaddy you have started 2 threads and Zep has started helping you on the other thread so please ignore this thread and we can all work on the other one to avoid confusion

I will copy and paste my thoughts in the other thread so Zep and others with ideas can jump in there.

\i386\halaacpi.dll could not be loaded. The error code is 7"... That error is usually a bad install disc, maybe clean it, or the cd rom is having an issue reading the disk. So is everything working now?

Well if the mobo was replaced a month ago we should be able to eliminate Frys. Did you remove the left side panel and see if the fan over the CPU heatsink was spinning? If you are comfortable inside the case then remove the power cord from the back of the tower, remove the side again and look to see if the heatsink is fastened tightly to the CPU. Rest an arm on the metal case while gently trying to move the heatsink. Strangely I recently read an article about a broken heatsink retaining bracket. If the heatsink is loose this could well cause the computer not to start as the built in safety factor will kick in preventing you from burning out the CPU or processor. While you are inside take a look at the 20 or 24 pin power connector coming from the power supply to the motherboard to ensure that is seated and the retaining clip is in place. Restart with the side off to watch the fan plus see if the LED lights on the front of the case light up at all.

Might be a system restore point would fix it. Hold down F8 when you power it on. It will beep beep beep way too much for a long few seconds and present you with a screen of choices. Probably want to pick the last know good restore point.
