But you can make the desktop visible by dragging one side of the web page inwards to expose the desktop. The dragging of the address to the desktop did not work when I just tried it in Firefox.

There is another option you may not be aware of and that is the Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox. Nice little feature. Just right click on an open area on the Firefox toolbar and click on the Bookmark Toolbar. Now you can drag your web pages there for easy reference.

Of course if you are already a toolbar fanatic then you might lose more viewing area. I have only 3 at the top and one of those is my Firefox Bookmark toolbar. My brother in law once had 7 on the top and 3 on the bottom making the viewing space very tiny :-)

In firefox if you click on the icon in front of the http on the address bar and drag it to the desktop it makes the shortcut. Caroline, in the upper right hand corner of your screen click the middle icon (between the - and the x)and you can drag the icon to your desktop. Then click the middle icon again to enlarge to full screen.

sorry,the click and drag wont work,,I give up.Everone keeps telling me how great Firfox is, and its really not user friendly at all!! All I want are some shortcut icons on my desk that I can just click on,and no one can tell me how so far!! Yikes,,guess Ill stay withj IE

Caroline Firefox or IE are simply conduits to the internet. Did you try exactly how Bob says to do it? I did and it works great, but dragging the address itself did not work for me.

However we then get back to the statement in your initial post here - it is then covered by the web site that is open so what is the point of that? Using the toolbar I referred to in my previous post offers your favourite sites all the time the Firefox browser is open. I also use numerous tabs at times making jumping back and forth a very easy task.

I set up the "bookmarks toolbar" in firefox, so that I have most shortcuts right in front of me. I just drag new shortcuts right onto it. Simple.

In the upper toolbar, do this: View, Toolbars, Bookmarks Toolbar, and check it. Now you have an extra row up top for your shortcuts (and if you have too many, there's a >> to see those, too. Just drag from your address bar right onto it. Simple.

BTW, you rename them (if you want) by Right-click, Properties, and call it each whatever you want.

This way is better than desktop icons.

OK so what version of Firefox are you running? Open Firefox click Help click About and it will tell you the version number

Sorry it's not working for you yet. You seem to have an isolated problem for some reason, because it does normally work that way.

Also, I tried the drag & drop to the desktop method (like IE), and my Firefox does that too (provided you drag the little icon).

Ok, try this:
In Firefox, press Help, Check for Upgrades, to see if there's something available. It should walk you through it.

I have 2.0.0.11...but its ok. I quit trying. I have a slight mental dis ability caused by an illness I have,and it causes me to have like a brain fog about some things,,,I just cant "get" them unless I SEE it done. I get frustrated to the point of tears,because I feel stupid,,my IE is working great so Ill use it. TY all so much!!

I know the frustration you must be feeling...been there...done that, as a lot of us have.

Just yesterday I was reading about a situation similar to this. It suggested getting away from the problem at hand for a bit...hours, or a day or so.

I know in the past that certain problems just seemed to wear me out until I was finally 'over them' for the time being.

I hope you will maybe give it another whirl at a later time.

Never feel stupid about operating these machines there not easy an no real instruction manual I struggle with every thing on them it's always trial & error and mostly error for me. One thing you have that others don't is your persistance and willingness to keep trying.........
