Advice needed (What Hardie Board color to use)

I'm a newbie to the site but have gone through and read a lot of posts that have helped our project. I'm building a Sara Susanka Green home with an ICF structure and will be using Hardie for the exterior.

Originally we had settled on timber bark for the main board and batten color but we think it might be too matchy-matchywith the natural stone and roof. I've included some pics for you to see. Please let me know your opinion.

Pre-painted Hardiplank was not recommended for us to use on our house because the paint can chip and dent (think hail storms) and the nail holes are a PITA to caulk and cover. I've seen pre-painted Hardiplank on homes and you can see every nail hole and seam from a distance (maybe it was installed incorrectly, I don't know), but it wasn't worth taking a chance to us. We actually went with pre-primed CertainTeed and are having it painted. That's my 2 cents!

If the trim and shingles are already up I'd get some samples and put them up against the house in varying lighting conditions. Smart choice. We have Maibec Nantucket cedar shingles. Look great but when the sun hits them we get constant popping sound. Saw where there was a class action suit not too long ago. Building a garage and don’t want to make the same mistake. Did you go with board & batten?

I agree that hanging primed Hardiplank and painting it after will give you the best finished product. I'm a siding guy and 9 out of 10 homes I side with Hardi get color after I'm done. Of course then you have to hire a painter too. You also have endless color options when you paint it.
