MP3 or WAV

Does it make a difference on how many songs fit on a CD from MP3 or WAV?

In other words, can you get more on if they were MP3?

Is there a difference in quality of the two if using Audacity to export as?

MP3 is a compressed WAV file so assuming you use a mp3 spec less than 0% compression, which most are, its going to be smaller.
So more MP3's will fit on a CD as long as you dont burn them CD Quality which will convert them to WAV.

mikie, unless i'm missing something doesn't your answer only apply to Data CD's?
If it's an Audio CD the file size doesn't matter as Audio is based on time.
I have recorded over 900 MB of WAV onto an audio CD ...
25 tunes...1 hour and 12 minutes.

Hi Zep, I went ahead and upgraded to mp10 for my system. It seems nice so I'll go with it thanks. Unfortunately I still can't get the songs onto my pos mp3 player, there must be something wrong with it is all I can figure. I am able to rip songs from my cd's fine but the whole transfering them thing just isn't working. I am going to try the mp3 player in another computer at work tomorrow and I'll go from there. Remember we've had this thing for a few years just sitting in a closet with how to speak german on it so its no big loss. I'll go get another simple yet fairly inexpensive model at w-mart to learn on. I'm not giving up on this because I'm tired of listening to the boring elevator music the local station plays here in the middle of nowhere. Thanks, Neal

here is a tutorial link from microsoft for moviemaker that you may find helpful. WAV is a music format, like mp3, wav, midi etc. it is a file type that your music can be saved in, it would then need to be played with a player that is capable of playing .wav files. Windows Movie Maker : How to use

Thanks poohbear... The file has a ".swf" extension, the whole name being: BeautifulDixie-CD_secure.swf Internet Explorer and Firefox can play that file, as can they the related "htm" file. I tried forcing MS Media Player to play the file, but it couldn't play and "saw" the file as an "htm" file, regardless of the ".swf" extension. Seems I have all the information/data, just not the right format, for a CD.

I've been using JetAudio for several years now and have never had any problem converting from any format to any other format. It will even convert to some formats I've never heard of. The plus version even works well with video files. Just click on "convert" at the top of the program, then go down to the "output format" window and click on the arrow there to select the format you want to convert to. You can even configure the output file and save it wherever you choose. Works for me...

abr4xii,

You are a sweetheart!
That was running through my mind and I was afraid to ask.
I wanted to know how many Wav songs fit on an 80 minute disk. So I experimented a little and did this.
I didn't burn, I just went this far in Nero to check.

Whichever way you go, check for compatibility on all the machines you plan to use for replay. Maybe I've just got cranky equipment, but some of it will not play MP3.

Hi to all,

I want to report that I converted each midi to Wav separately.
Burned 30 songs on a 80min CD.
Tried it in my CD player and it sounded terrific for the way I had to do it.

One Happy Camper, Gotta LOVE this computer to bits!

MP3 format which allows CD quality audio at one twelfth the file size of a WAV

Urlee,
Thank you for the information, now I know why a 3.59MB MP3 song turned into a whooping 39.5MB WAV file after converting it last night to use in a PowerPoint slide show.
