O.K. fiddled around with it more and still no beans on this thing. I don't get it, when I plug the mp3 player into the cord my computer automatically picks it up and I can open up the removable disc and see the songs that it has in it. I can transfer them out of the mp3 player onto my desktop and but for some reason when I disconnect the cable and plug in the earphones I get nothing soundwise. I can see the little light flash when I change tracks but never a sound.

Is it possible the mp3 player is junk?
I wanted to start with this cheap litte guy before I went out and got better so I had a clue how to use this stuff but I'm feeling skunked so far.

Is it possible the tracks I have are wrong and ineligable?
I just copy tracks from my own CD's to put on the mp3 player Is that something that is allowed? With all the copyright stuff out now It would not suprize me that I can't do this.

Does any of this I have wrote sound correct?

Are you ripping the tracts from the cd that is what you need to do, when you insert your music cd several options should come up choose rip on my computer these files are then converted to mp3 and found in the "My Music folder, from this folder you can now drag the mp3 file to the Mp3 player.

Anything you want to play on the MP3 player will have to be converted to an MP3 file format. I guess that's why they call it an MP3 player. It won't play files copied from a CD until they have been converted. The same way most older CD players won't play MP3 files until they are converted to .wav format. I've never used the program listed below, but it's free and worth a few minutes of your time to try it. I use Cowon's Jet Audio for all my audio needs, but it isn't free.

Thanks Arkie, I downloaded the converter you linked but when I go to add files it gives me some error message I need to upgrade to DirectX 8.1 or higher. I have 9.0C already so not sure what the deal is with that. Does anyone know?

I'm at a loss here windows media player converts the audio cd to mp3 files by using the rip function with-in the player Itunes does the same.

no I don't think so that player should be able to rip songs from a music cd here is another link for 10 with pictures, you can always upgrade to windows media 10 but you may not have to

Here is the link for Windows Media Player 10 If you desire it, but 9 should work and I would stick with 9 for now so you do not have to many things going on at once--Copy/rip music may take some practice stay at it & you will get it.

Hi Zep, I went ahead and upgraded to mp10 for my system. It seems nice so I'll go with it thanks. Unfortunately I still can't get the songs onto my pos mp3 player, there must be something wrong with it is all I can figure.

I am able to rip songs from my cd's fine but the whole transfering them thing just isn't working. I am going to try the mp3 player in another computer at work tomorrow and I'll go from there. Remember we've had this thing for a few years just sitting in a closet with how to speak german on it so its no big loss. I'll go get another simple yet fairly inexpensive model at w-mart to learn on. I'm not giving up on this because I'm tired of listening to the boring elevator music the local station plays here in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds good, when you rip/copy the songs you should see them as listed in a folder as mp3, I have mine in "My Music" folder I then open that folder then I open my computer look for the player as removable disk and drag the mp3 file over top of the removable disk and it's in the mp3 player, or you could right click the mp3 file choose copy now put the mouse over the removable disk & choose copy, I have only done it once and sure there are easier ways to do it, so I'm not an expert in this area some of the kids sync the device and it occurs automatically I guess..

In WMP10 are you clicking on 'sync' to put them on your player? That's what I do, and they copy just fine.

Could be this player is just not going to work that way. I have a Sony player that requires use of special software to copy music to it.

I guess while we are on this subject can anyone recommend a lower cost mp3 player that requires no additional software and is able to hold at least twenty or so songs. I'm sure some players hold ten times that many songs but I'm the type to switch them around every so often.

I'm thinking something in the fourty to fifty dollar range maybe even less.

Neal, I have a Creative Zen Nano which holds 1GB. That translates to many, many more than twenty or so songs. I ordered it online last year and paid about $50 for it, so I am sure if you checked, you'd find something in that price range or less. Check out Amazon.com and see what they have. Safe online buying and fast service.

O.K. I finally broke down and asked my fourteen year old son to help me get this thing to work. He said the player is working but the songs I had ripped from CD are copyright protected and they can be played on the computer but can not be played on a mp3 player.

He uses this limewire program that he transfered some of the same songs I had ripped from cd to the mp3 player and it works fine. He said some of my older cds will probably transfer fine.

Question, is limewire legal?? Why would people pay for songs when you can go to limewire and download songs for free??

In the US downloading music is illegal..there are countries where the courts have ruled that it is not.

Limewire and other file sharing software is legal. Using it to upload or download copyright protected media - music, videos, images, software - without the copyright holder's consent is illegal because it is theft, However lot of people use it and I don't hear or see any enforcement but that does not make it right some people pay .99 or so for a song and stay legal. One problem with limewire is the risk of getting your computer infected because you are sharing files with others on the limewire network.
