MP3 player has songs but I can't hear them

I acquired a Coby brand el cheapo Mp3 player that had really not been used at all. So the other day I decided to see if I could figure it all out and load some songs copied from some of my CD's and transfer them to this little Coby model#MP-C827 128MB mp3 player.

I'm using windows media player and running W/xp home so it should work with this machine right?

I don't have the install CD for w/98 and 2000. So I'm guessing my machine will pick it up fine which it does. Its called "removable disk" (E) is this correct?

I was able to get the songs onto the device but when I disconnect the usbcable from the mp3 player and plug the headphones in I don't hear any of the songs. What have I done wrong? I've tinkered around on this stuff for too long and now I'm hoping someone could shed some light on what I've missed.

Thanks, Neal
